It is stuck at 25 for now, because groups are integrated into access controls and currently we need to carry them all around, cached with our avatars. See https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-208 for gory details. |

I would love to have more groups, although I can see why it's not as easy as it would seem.
I'm constantly having to juggle mine, because of my music addiction. _____________________

Wow, you 25 groups, and want more!
How do you cope with the Notices and IMs that come via groups. I'm only in 4 and get overfaced, I dropped a couple as they never stopped. Love June |

Love June Most of my 25 groups are music related and only send out notices and group IMs to announce gigs. One click and they're gone ![]() I turn notices from busy groups off when I'm not inworld to stop my IMs from getting capped. If groups are spammy in terms of notices, I will switch off "receive notices" altogether and just check them in the group window. _____________________

I find I have to juggle my group memberships, as 25 does limit me a tad!
Consider the kind of groups you're subscribing to and see if you can find groups that cover a number of bases, for example, the 'Fashion Consolidated' group covers lots of major designers so you don't need to be in their separate groups ![]() Also, lots of stores now offer the opportunity to use their 'subscribe-o-matic' system, which doesn't impact your group memberships. Since many of the groups' main function appears to be to notify its members of events, item updates, sales, etc, etc, perhaps an alternative that caters for that function alone is needed - some kind of aggregator where the resident can sign up to notice IMs, like an IM based RSS reader. Then all the group slots can be reserved for groups which are used for all other group functions, which I bet is a comparatively smaller number.

The 25 group limit is rubbish! It's so frustrating.

Surely it only checks your active group for access controls? That's only for the parcel part of it :/ There are also the access controls for group communications and administration, and all the message routing too. That's what makes them so unwieldy, groups do too many things for their own good. |

I mean people create alts for other groups so it doesn't decrease load in those cases. I know there are some issues but really, they need to sort something out, maybe have groups where chat is banned or something. |
