I've been around a long time but never had the need to increase my tier without incurring additional tier charges.

Now I am at the half sim level 32768sqm and want to transfer the land I currently own to one of my existing groups to take advantage of the 10% bonus and increase my land holdings through this group.

I know all the ins and outs of groups etc but not the actual transfer of land to the group.

Having read the sticky 'Step by Step: How to Transfer Land' I am not sure exactly what I should be doing.

Do I?

1) go to groups 'Land Sales' tab and add the 32768sqm tier.
2) set my land for sale and set it to myself and purchase for my group

or do I just deed the land to my group following these steps from the sticky.

SET LAND CONTRIBUTION

1. Select Edit >> Groups fom the menu bar. The Communicate dialogue box opens to a list of your groups.

2. Highlight the group you will donate tier to. Click the "Info" button. The Group Information box opens.

3. Click the "Land & L$" tab.

4. In the Your Contribution box, enter the amount you want to donate and click "Apply".

DEED LAND TO GROUP

1. Go to the land and right-click it. Select About Land fom the pie menu.

2. Click on the General tab.

3. Click the Set button next to the Group name. A list of groups will appear.

4. Select the group you want and click Set.

5. Check the Allow Deed to Group box nad click the Deed button.

My last question is at what stage does Lindens increase my tier as there must be tier to cover the land I currently own or is there some time lapse or something in between donating the tier to my group and transferring/buying the land.

You should Deed the land to the group.

There is an option in the dialog to donate the necessary tier with the land. Check that.
The system will auto-donate the required amount of tier, taking into account that the donation will get a 10% uplift in the group.

You will then be left with an amount of tier unused in your account.
Use the About Land / L$ and Land tag to set the donation amount to your full 1/2 sim tier. The system will show you the existing donation and advise the maximum - which would be 32767 if you don't own any other land apart from what you have deeded and have no donations to any other groups.

Any other method would jump you to the full sim tier level.

ETA:

After you Deed the land, be very, very scared of Autoreturn.
Better to set it to 0 even before deeding to be ultra safe, even thogh the system should set it to 0 on a change of ownership
If you set this to non-Zero, and objects on the land not set to Group will go poof to Lost and Found. You don't have to deed the objects to the group - apart from maybe som security devices and media control devices.

Thats was my concern, jumping from 32768 to a full sim is not a cheap mistake.

Fortunately the land is empty so no issues there but thanks again for the input.

Doh!

Your maximum tier to donate is actually 32767 *Plus* the 512 of tier that you get as a Premium.

After you are done of course, deeded and such, set autoreturn to some number 1 or higher.
- then just make sure to have the group tag on when putting out objects.

I prefer an auto-return of 1. It makes it obvious to me when I've forgotten to set my group tag - items will more than likely return to me before I log out.

Running with 0 is dangerous - something that gets on the land that doesn't belong there will stay there. Even if you never give anyone else rez permissions, this can happen with things like vehicles. And plus, if someday down the road you change from 0 to a number, many objects might suddenly poof into your lost and found if you had been lazy in setting them up originally.

Mmmm, I was suggesting 0 just for the time in which any existing objects could be set to group. I should have made that explict.

Autoreturn of 0 is not a great idea after that.
I use a value of 5, so that people rezzing vicles / trying / unpacking have a bit of time.
It does bite me sometimes if I forget to change group.
