Possible to block sim from viewer?

Has anyone ever successfully blocked a sim from their viewer? I'm wondering because of the neighboring sim where I work on things all the time. There are tons of sculpted rocks and waterfalls right near the sim border. I accept that they have a right to be there, but I would like to find some way of blocking it all. Could I simply block the server address somehow? Would that be enough to make my viewer think that the sim is offline for me, without messing up anything else?

Lower your draw distance.

My draw distance is already 64, but it's within that range even though it's in the other sim.

If you want to get a better idea of the problem, you can go here and see all the stuff over in Toeda:

Oddly enough, the parcel description includes "Sex Animations" and Toeda is a PG sim. But I don't think I should report them based on a personal motivation. To the best of my knowledge, they don't actually have anything like that there.

Is it the sort of work you could do on a sky platform?

megaprim wall between you and them (object occlusion is so helpful sometimes)

If you do that make sure you set it phantom, and put a transparent texture on the side not facing you.

Unfortunately, LL has not given us the tools to do more than stuff like that.

For completeness sake: that'll work as you expected it would (the region will simply not be there for you, you'll just see open water, including on the minimap).

Of course it would prevent you from visiting the other 3 regions that are sharing the same sim host (you don't really have any way of knowing what those are) and in addition every time the neighbouring region restarts there's a chance that it will come back online on a different host and then you'll have to block the new one.

All in all you'd frequently be blocking a new IP - and hopefully remembering to unblock the old one - and at the same time running the risk that you'll go crazy wondering why you can't tp to a certain other region even though everyone else you know can and you don't (instantly) realize that you blocked it along with the one next door because they currently happen to be sharing the same host.

It's not going to be worth it and if you forget about it it's going to result in some very annoying side-issues.

This being the case you might be blocking your own land's IP :-)

that may not work the way you think it will.... I believe at least part of that information is passed to the sim you're on, and THEN sent to you, by the sim you are in.

PS.
the invisprim texture(s) can be used with the megaprim trick, providing both occlusion and unobstructed view ;)

I umm ... just threw up a mega prim without making it phantom or transparent on one side.

Guess I better go and fix that.

You could use Emerald Viewer you can set Draw distance from 0 - 1024 m :D

The reason to keep if phantom is so that people can fly/walk through it. The transparent on the other side is AR prevention. Of course, an AR might get laughed off, but.. better to just not risk it.

My sense of what is objectionable to OP is the rocks, waterfalls, and other prims are interferring with her/his ability to work on things they are trying to build or otherwise interact with. It's not that the OP has a problem with the prims themselves but the fact that those prims make it difficult to do what the OP wants to do. If that's the case then simply putting up a platform above the view of the offending neighboring prims is the easiest, most effective way of dealing with the problem. Putting up megapims, lowering draw distance, playing around with occlusion, etc gets complicated.........and so unnecessary.

Why make a simple solution so complicated?
