I have a question re: this statement that you receive when reporting and item on Xstreet.
"Do you want to report an intellectual property violation? If you are an intellectual property owner with a complaint about a marketplace listing, contact the Intellectual Property team directly.
I was under the impression that NO RL logos, celeb names or pics etc were to be posted on Xstreet. What does this statement mean? Does it mean that the RL celeb or attn'ys must complain to SL and that anyone can post rl logos & pics unless there is a complaint? In other words if you are a serial reporter and NOT the owner of a copy righted items you can NOT complain?
It would be helpful if an actual LINDEN would respond to this tread!

Actually seeing ELVIS all over Xstreet is what prompted me to start this thread I HAVE submitted a ticket to LL asking this same question but by the time I get a response I may be too old to type! *snickers*. It's just a little frustrating when the TOS says one thing yet doesn't seem to apply to ALL in some cases.

I'm not an expert on the matter but I THINK that you have to be the owner of the image or likeness in question to get any action in any sort of copyright issue. Elvis would have to send in his own AR for LL to do anything. Thank You. Thank You very much.

You have two options.
1. You can report the violation to LL yourself.
2. You can note the URL(s) of the offending item(s) and send it in an email to Elvis' estate managers. They can take it from there.
There's no reason you can't do both.

There's no reason you can't do both. I was ALSO under the impression that NO TM items were to be sold or given away in world as well such as all the M. Jackson items that were pulled from Xstreet for TM violations. However, there are still a BUNCH of that stuff in world as well. Dunno.....

LL hasn't the capability to scour the grid looking for these types of things, even if they wanted to. If you see something, report it if you feel you must. Just don't hold your breath waiting for any action to be taken, or of being notified if any is taken.

Just because it's wrong, though, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Frankly, I would much rather see LL's time and attention go toward protecting the IP of in-world creators than hunting down people making a few cents off Michael Jackson or Elvis.

Ironically one of the biggest offender of this very thing just changed the text version of the violations to a hotlinked photo with the text so you cannot search for it anymore but its still there. Lindens will not make statements regarding policy like this .. its probably highlighted and bold on the very top of their OPs manual - its a case by case decision only.

Seconded. Plus, there's the fact that RL trademarks and logos pretty much self-identify the wearer as n00b, clueless, or both. It's impossible to "get" SL and wear Nike shoes, except ironically. Although, come to think of it, that's even more true if Nike themselves supplied the branding.
