Inventory

I keep my inventory in prims - example - each avatar in it's own storage prim - then all the individual prims in a master prim - which I store in a folder of "boxed masters" by type.

I've been noticing the "missing from inventory" problem with some things that I store this way.

Is there any rule to follow to avoid this - any limit to "nested" prims - and is it better to store most things outside your inventory in one prim or to drag the whole mess around all the time?

Thanks!

This is a good question, and, sadly, I don't have an answer. There is no official rule about storing things in prims, or nested prims, and in an ideal world, that should work. The problem you describe is the reason I don't do it though.

The last time this came up I had a discussion with a friend about why objects seem to get lost this way. He speculated that it had to do with things getting lost and the links to them broken or garbled because they are accessed in memory so infrequently, maybe shuffled off to a different part of the database and then lost track of. He really wasn't sure. It would be great if someone with more knowledge about databases could weigh in on that here?

Nope, not crazy. You're in SL, where your closet cleans itself.
