Sim 'earthquakes'?

No, I haven't gone out of my mind. I swear to hell that my home sim suffered a weird 'earthquake' (possibly two of them) recently. It's a mainland sim and I rent a fairly large parcel on it.

My old skybox LM used to take me to 109, 208, 572 on my home parcel. A few weeks ago, I noticed that I fell when I used the LM. The skybox floor had dropped 10m to 562m.

A few days ago, my partner was with me on the parcel. I was AFK, and when I got back, there was a panicked, "WTF was THAT? The whole sim moved!" message from him. I hadn't seen it, and nothing seemed wrong.

I just used that same LM for the first time since he said that, and the landing co-ordinates have changed AGAIN. The LM has the same numbers (I never changed it after the z-axis dropped) but the x and y co-ordinates have each now shifted by 3m.

In order of weird 'shifts' the position that the LM dumps me at has gone from 1-3:

1: 109, 208, 572 (original landmark)
2: 109, 208, 562 (a few weeks ago)
3: 106, 211, 562 (a couple of days ago)

Has the sim shifted? Is my landmark screwed? Talk about confusing...

Linden Lab is just trying to keep you on your toes. :) I don't know the coordinates of my sky box.......heck I don't even know the co ordinates of my land at the ground. I know a month or so ago I deleted my house by accident and fell 100 meters to my "work shop" below.........finally set a new landmark to that altitude.

But I have noticed on a few occassions when I tp to the ground to visit a nieghbor I tp to the location of his landmark except 600 meters higher...................woooo, watch that first step. :)

Ive noticed something similar with one of my mainland skyboxes

Not the first time I've been flat on my face in there, either. Say no more indeed ;)

OK, well I'm glad it's not just me, then!

Months back another friend and I were visiting Jer at his store complex and we all saw the ground move. Even the foundation moved under the building we were standing by. It was the strangest thing I've ever seen. I grew up in southern California and never saw the ground move like that in RL. I chalked it up as a mystery of the universe or somebody accidentally leaned on their keyboard down in San Francisco.

I've read (in different place I hasten to add) the following two theories for such things:

1) Salazar Jack has posted on this forum about how the re-gridding of a lost world now found by Linden Lab can cause all manner of grid instability. Search for his posts and threads to learn more.

2) Over on Prok Neva's blog (long since banned from here) he talks about all kinds of weird inventory and positioning errors occuring after a rolling restart. I'm sure he'll have posted stuff on the JIRA but if not, check his blog:

Yeah, I'm sure the sea bed has sunk at Crameri. I had to adjust the TP co-ordinate to my submarine.
