But don't bother trying to register SecondLife.sl - I've already done so, and have offered it up to Phil for $250K - which I think is a very fair price. https://www.nic.sl/domainEDIT: I am kidding! I did not register secondlife.sl but since my post someone has lol

It could be interesting to see how this impacts on the trademark guidelines, too.

One law suit is much cheaper than that. Take a wild guess which way they will go.

Where can you go to register a .sl domain? My usual place isn't offering them yet.

I wonder if it's a scam site. There is no contact information at all, and nothing whatsoever to suggest that it's geniune. Even Google doesn't know the site, or has penalised it. And it wasn't me - no

Jeez, don't know how I missed that link. Thanks. I registered imagin.sl, when I open my store I'll make a web page for it.

Yes, and sending your credit card info to Sierra Leone isn't necessarily the smartest move !
Also note that the service opened on April 1st 2008.

Also note that the service opened on April 1st 2008. .SL has been in the works for a while now, they just now are getting their sh*t together in allowing names to be registered. At $50 a year, the cost for a domain is a little on the high side but not too much for someone who's got a business in SL. It's rather a small price to pay in my opinion. Sending your CC info to Sierra Leone - yeah I guess it's a risk, but most CC companies will back up theft charges...

If you're worried about sending credit card info pay with PayPal. Even if PayPal charges your credit card the info isn't available to the domain registrar. I don't think I'd pay this much for a domain if I wasn't planning a business but then again, heck, it's hard to get a first name as a domain these days!

Jake, I realize your original post was tongue-in-cheek, but it seems at least a few others didn't. Look guys, don't register a .sl domain. It's got nothing to do with Second Life. It's the suffix for websites either located in, or associated with, the Republic of Sierra Leone.
I would likely not even so much as view a website with a .sl suffix, myself, let alone register a domain of my own with it. I have no idea what kind of privacy/data protection laws exist in that country. I do know it's reportedly got one of the most corrupt governments on Earth.

From: Cristalle Karami Might want to do some research on how effective cybersquatting extortion has been lately Heh, about 7 years ago a friend of mine, who is way smarter than me and who has been a leading-edge ISP for a long time, registered wallstreet.com and sold it for a million bucks.
