We had created an additional account some time ago (just joined with a different email address) but we didnt get charged $9.95 for an additional account yet. How long does it take until they charge us?

They might never do. Using a different address isn't necessary any more. Quite a lot of us have un-charged for alts. There's a lot of redundant information lying around .. First Land for instance!

It won't ever happen, unless you contact billing and insist that they make arrangements to take your money.
Seriously, they are completely ignoring that revenue stream right now, and are not billing anyone for additional accounts unless they cause problems with that account. Then they may suspend the account until it is 'paid for'. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Since they moved the billing department to the Uk everything is moving extremely slow or their is some type of problem happening.
Sometimes it takes a week or two. This month they said I had problem with my bank paying them. It was nothing wrong on my bank or my end so I called and talk to someone. While there I reactivated a alt from 2003 I had a problem reactivating she didn't charge me for that account. I figured she was being nice. Still had a issue with this account even after I followed the instructions to delete and re-entry my bank information. When I prepaid the negative balance went away. By way all my alts now have same email address. _____________________

I submitted a support ticket in June to ask about this and they said they aren't charging for alts at the moment. I assume they left the fee notification up because they're intending to go back to it at some point, but we all know how LL's time schedules tend to drift...

There is no cost for making ALT accounts Read the support and help pages for more info, or press F1 They still have the fee listed here though, and perhaps other places as well: http://secondlife.com/whatis/plans.php Edit: It's in the Knowledge Base too. What does it cost to create additional Basic accounts? Your first Basic account is free. We charge a small fee, US$9.95, for the creation of each additional Basic account as a way to recoup some of the cost of maintaining the account for you. And then this in the Billing Policies: Only one Access Account is permitted per unique user; additional Access Accounts for the same unique user require a one-time access payment. So, basically in all the logical places. ![]() _____________________

from the base of knowldege
Alt Account FAQ Alt account policies: Be everyone you can be Alternate accounts... multiple identities... We all have them in some way or another. Perhaps in real life you're an entrepreneur in the morning, soccer mom in the afternoon, and vegetarian chef in the evening. In Second Life, you get to externalize these roles in customized, uniquely identifiable personas -- otherwise known as alt accounts. How cool is that? There are great reasons for having more than one account in Second Life, and we like to facilitate these uses. One of the ways we protect these legitimate accounts is by limiting the creation and use of illegitimate alt accounts -- primarily fraudsters and people bent on disruptive behaviors. Below you'll find answers to commonly asked questions. What does it cost to create additional Basic accounts? Your first Basic account is free. We do not charge any fee, for the creation of each additional Basic account. This is explained further in section 1 of the billing policies, which can be accessed through the link on the right side of your account page. (Note that in the billing policies, "Access Account" means Basic account and a "Subscription Account" means a Premium account.) What if I have a Premium account already? Your first account, paid or not, counts as your free Basic account. The free Basic account is meant as an incentive to new Residents to try Second Life with no associated charges. If you have an account already, additional accounts do not have an associated cost for maintenance. How many alts may I have? Currently, you can create 65,535 additional Basic or Premium accounts with the following limitations: You can create up to five accounts per email address. You can create no more than two accounts in a single 24-hour period. Previously, we limited accounts to five per household and two per payment method, but this is no longer the case. We do require that alt accounts adhere to all of our policies. For example, by agreeing to our Terms of Service (TOS)you agree to provide truthful and accurate information about yourself when you register for accounts -- that includes not only your contact information and real name but also whether this is your first free Basic account or a new alt (see TOS section 2.1). People who do not provide truthful information risk losing their accounts. How are these policies enforced? We have various means of detecting illegitimate accounts and enforcing necessary limits to prevent fraud and other disruptive uses of Second Life and LindeX services. What are the consequences of creating or using illegitimate alts? When we find people with accounts that have not been enslaved and are in violation of our policies, we may, at our discretion and in alignment with our Terms of Service, take any or all of the following actions: Prevent them from creating additional accounts Close some or all of their accounts until payment is made Close all of their accounts permanently So, we know no system is perfect. If you have legitimate reasons for creating multiple accounts but have been unable to do so: Residents with a Basic account should go to Help Island and talk to someone there. If you have a Premium account, you can submit a support ticket through the Solution Finder. We're always striving to balance the desire to see people use Second Life in the most robust and interesting ways possible with maintaining the security and stability of the systems that hold it all together. Thanks for joining us in creating this new world. Rating: ( 255 Votes) Was this answer helpful? or _____________________

Weird...the Knowledge Base is pulling up something different for me.
Nonetheless, the Membership Plan page DOES mention the $9.95 fee and the Billing Policy mentions a fee, without giving a dollar amount._____________________

I assume they left the fee notification up because they're intending to go back to it at some point, but we all know how LL's time schedules tend to drift... Amazing! I created my alt in May and actually called and got support. They said they do not charge for alts anymore. However.... before I called, I submitted a support ticket, and it stayed open for months. Finally, the support ticket said closed and to put payment info on file for the alt so that they could charge. SolutionSolved: (7/25/2007 8:37 AM PDT) Be sure to put a payment method on your alt account so that your 9.95 charge will automatically go through. Thanks! _____________________
