is it possible to find or make loose fitting clothing in SL. i not into the skin tight look. wile it is cool for some things it not right for every thing all the time. i am not asking for baggy but loose fitting like real clothes. if some one is willing to make it i am willing to buy it. so far i have purchased very little clothing because every thing is skin tight. if your a craftsman or tailor and can make something like that send me a tell you may make a sale if i like your product. i have L$ and am looking to spend it.

Clothes are always going to be tight fitting because they are painted on the surface of the avatar. The only way to make something loose fitting is to use prims or prim pieces. You might want to look for items of clothing that use prims. I've seen collars, cape, fur jackets and of couse prim flexi skirts. I'm not sure if you are looking for men's or womens clothes. I just released a kimono with full prim sleeves and I am planing to make more outfits that use sculptie prims to make clothing look looser or hang more naturally.

so basically clothing is just paint over skin. ok, got it. that explains the ass look on mens clothes. also explains why i am having a hard time finding pants don't look like leotards. this is disappointing but i can except it. i am looking for mens clothing that is not metro-sexual. i am talking about fit not style.

I discovered that in the Windlight viewer, when I change my pants to loose fitting, they actually flap in the wind. They never did that before, and I was always laughing at the slider being there at all.

The code for pants flapping in the wind etc. was actually the basis which resulted in 'flexies'.

I'd be the first to admit I know little about how clothes work on the avatar but I have seen instances of loose looking clothes. Trouser legs vary with the flare for one thing without being prims. Sweaters and tops can look loose with well textured wrinkles and creases. Not in-world to check but I'm sure a bomber jacket of mine, also non-prim, looks padded. Oh lore .. Monday!

A male friend of mine found some nice loose fitting pants at the Freebie Beach. Jeans, cargo pants, and khakis. Might be worth a look.

I have a similar question... what I want is a hockey jersey that looks like a hockey jerse. Everyone knows a jersey like that won't form fit to a person's hips... it looks almost silly... I'd really appreciate any more insight on the PRIM idea and how a person might be able to make a jersey hang straight like it should. Thanks!

Trouser legs vary with the flare for one thing without being prims. Sweaters and tops can look loose with well textured wrinkles and creases. Not in-world to check but I'm sure a bomber jacket of mine, also non-prim, looks padded. Oh lore .. Monday! There are a few problems with "loose" clothing; but then there are problems with just about anything so you learn to work around or within the limitations. Clothes are painted on the skin. Well, actually, skin is just another clothing layer and they are all painted in layers on the polygons that make up the avatar. When you adjust a slider to make the clothes loose, you are actually adjusting the polygons of the avatar. At it's best, you will get flappy bits of skin around your neck, wrists and ankles and that is assuming there is no alpha layer on the clothing texture. At it's wosre you are wearing an Edgar suit (MiB) with large areas of very slack skin flapping in the wind. Careful use of "length" sliders can limit the effects. Also, prim fringe, lace or trims can be used to cover the last bit of tapered skin. Another effect of clothes being painted on the skin is a problem with the jacket layer. Jackets can not be made loose with the sliders. They cover two body areas, the torso and the legs. Since they only cover a small part of the leg area rather than letting the whole body become slack with a loose slider, their is no option for loose jackets. Easily worked around by making a shirt/jacket combination and making the shirt loose. Then, when the jacket is painted on, it is painted on the loose fiting polygons formed by the shirt. And finally, because the loose slider adjusts the polygons of an avatar, just how loose a setting of 20 is will vary depending on the avatar's shape. I made clothes mod/copy/no trans for several reasons but in the end because that is how i want them. I like to change the pants length to "fit inside" boot tops. I also like to set the length to 99 to eliminate the strange large triangle of skin that dangles at the bottom sometimes. And finally, I made the clothes tight so that I did not change someone else's avatar design by wearing my clothes. If they wante loose clothes, the slider is there so they can change it.

Then, when the jacket is painted on, it is painted on the loose fiting polygons formed by the shirt. One problem is that the waist area still is fit to the skin, or at least I've not found a way to get around that. A shirt that is meant to hang down below your belt ends up looking like a tucked in t-shirt and a small skirt all of the same color.

Another one is to modify your body shape to match the clothing. Then, save the modified body in the folder with the clothes.

So, you're lucky if you find any as only the smart ones give their customers options, the rest are in these forums complaining their businesses are drowning. /smiles [at that very thought.]

I am creating men's clothing that is focused on being more loose fitting, non-metrosexual if your interested. You can find the store name and link to it located within my Picks on my profile. I don't have a huge selection at the moment because I just started recently, however I'm working hard to build it up. I'm using shading/highlighting to portray a looser fit for my clothing.
