Naked with bad hair HELP!!!!

I have tried to find any previous posts with a similar problem but keep on getting side tracked by the posts so hope my call for help works.

My problem is that since Wednesdays downtime I've been stuck in my SL home with ruthie hair and no clothes. When I click on my invent I get the usual message that I cannot change/alter anything until my invent has downloaded (sic) but it HAS!!! It's all there.

I can attach Prim items and I can unpack things from my invent I just cannot wear things.

Best of all I cannot even go into Apperance to get rid of the Ruthie hair. No message or anything I just keep on clicking but can't get it to work.

I have done the usual stuff ie clear cache, uninstall SL, even did a system restore but nothing has worked.

I do have another AV from when I had trouble before and she has loaded with no problems at all. But with my normal AV I have 2 jobs and a bulging invent....I want her back.

I've sent something off to SL and got a standard auto reply but it's now going to be 3 days soon. What else can I do? Is there a phone number I can call? As a basic account holder is it a case of Tough Luck?

Have you tried a rebake of your avatar? I think that's Ctrl-Alt-R. Also, can you teleport to a different sim? Changing sims = changing servers, and that might "jog" the system's memory a little bit. I've noticed that teleporting often helps clear this up.

But no joy.

My skin and shape are my normal ones. I just can't put on items out of my Invent and go into my Apperance to change anything.

Did try the Sim hopping, not easy when your buck naked (at least I have a great skin LOL) but it's not made a difference.

Are you able to change skins or shapes? Do you 'drag' things from your inventory, or do you simply right click them and chose 'wear'? This is very strange... Are you trying 1 item at a time, or putting on an 'outfit'? It shouldn't make a difference which way you choose to wear things but, maybe trying different ways might help. How many items do you have in your inventory?

Do you have access to the 1-800 help number? It sounds as if something's messed up in your inventory, which doesn't surprise me given the assest server issues of the past week.

I have tried to put on several different items individually by either right clicking or dragging and still get the same result, the message that clothes or shape cannot be changed till the invent has downloaded. OH and no I cannot change my skin or shape either.

I'm in the UK so if anyone can give me the number to call from here I would be grateful.

I don't think you can call since you have a Basic Account
You've sent a support ticket - send another. Make sure you write "Can Not Go Into Appearance Mode" as a title or something, because that sure sounds like a bug. Check back here a few times since I'm certain this must have happened to someone else.

Hi Zan, welcome to the forums. While waiting for LL to get around to you, try deleting all your SL data (as opposed to just clearing the cache). You will have to reset your preferences, but its worth a shot.

In XP the folder is (delete the whole thing):
C:\Documents and Settings\<your userid>\Application Data\SecondLife

In vista the folder is:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife

You might also want to delete as much of the Temp folder as you can.

Tried what you said Nika or rather uninstalled SL then did a search and removed all remaining doc/ folders in my Comp and then reinstalled and nothing


Isabeau I'll do that as well. Good hint for the title cos I think mine of "Buggered again" was probably misunderstood esp since it's probably an American who would look at that and think "How Rude!!!".

And I have heard many veteran posters say that a basic account will not let you post in here, well my old basic account from way back, which I canceled, was able to post in here...how strange...

FYI: You can post here with a basic account if you have payment info on file. You can just buy some L$ for that.

Reboot your router and modem. Also try searching your inventory by typing the letter "a" then "e", "i", "o", "u" and "y"..........one at a time (let the search finish for each letter). Those are the vowels in the English language so you should certainly hit every item in your inventory. Most of the time just searching "a" will get the job done.

Forces SL's servers to resend your inventory to your client.

OK. Sounds like something very basic is wrong with your avatar - I bet your inventory in general is fine, since deleting it didn't work. Courtesy of Joker Opus, on a thread from someone else with this problem, try this, it worked for her:

Client > Character > Character Tests > Test male (or female) > relog > Log back in > Put back on your things

(When putting on things after, try just normal clothes first, before you put back on your real shape and skin, if they're gone. It may be your shape or usual skin that's borked).

As soon as I did the first part I changed back into the Newbie that we all started off as. Then relogged came back all Newbiefied BUT my skin/shape/hair etc have all loaded!!!

I'M GORGEOUS AGAIN!!!!

More importantly all that stuff I have in my invent is now not lost to my use.

Hope you don't mind I've added you to my Buddy List (first ever, lol) cos if someone is will to keep on digging out the info then they have to be the sort of buddy you need.

But also BIG thanks to those who also offered help just because it didn't work doesn't mean it wasn't a valid suggestion.

I don't know if this has been suggested before, or if you have tried it, but here it goes.
Go to Client > Character > Test Male (or Female). This should make your avatar appearance recieve the packets for the default avatar, meaning you won't be in the rendering stage. Once you are in the default, put on all of your character's normal attachments/clothes/shape ect. and you should be OK. Once you do that, clear your cache and relog (Preferances > Networking > Clear Cache > Relog)

Oh already suggested by Nika - well it worked anywho, so yay.
