Whenever I take pictures SL allows me to name the first pic. After that I no longer have that as an option and all the following pictures have the same name but numbered. Is there any way to allow me to name each and every pic that I take?

Once it's in your Inventory, just rename it, like any other object.

If you select snapshot from the file menu or w/e i think you can.. maybe not tho, unsure. Might just be that session. In torleys guide to SL photography he tell syou.. one of the tip of the weeks from not too long ago

I should have clarified, these are all snapshots I have going to my disk that I need to work on in photoshop and we are talking about ALOT of them. It's very time consuming to have them go to a folder all under the same name and then to have to go to that folder to rename them. I can't seem to find a way to name a pic, though, once I take the first one. That option is no longer there.

I don't think you can name individual snapshots after the first when saving to disk. I generally name the first something that will fit most of what I anticipate taking in that session then save to desktop for viewing after I end my SL session. I just get me a pen and pad of paper and note the ones I want to keep by the number following the name I gave for the session........rename and put in a folder for whatever it is I want to do with them in GIMP. Delete the rest. Sort of pain sometimes if you want to take pictures during the same SL session that are not really related.......such as pictures of different avatars or scenes of different places. The only way I know to get around it is to relog between the sessions.........that gives you to option again for the next set.

For fast selection and renaming I usually switch the folder to thumbnail view and then use the F2 and Enter keys to edit the names of the picture files. This works pretty fast, as I don't have to load and save the pictures through another program à la GIMP.

Open a Windows Explorer window for the folder where you are saving the screenshots to disk. Click on the Date Created or Date Modified column header until the most recently created file is on top.
As you take snapshots the newly created file will appear at top. Each time you take the snapshot in SL, Alt Tab to the Explorer window and rename the newly created file.

There should be a toggle to switch between the autonaming and unique naming systems. Each method is useful for different purposes.
I'll bet there's a jira issue for this idea.

When taking snapshots directly to disk, it always numbers the shots sequentially for that session, basing the name on what you select for the first pic. No choice there. Run Sl in a window, and click on the desktop or the folder you are saving to after you take each pic, and rename them there. It's a hassle, but less of one than logging out of SL and back in between each shot.

This has annoyed me, too. I've almost relogged on occasion just so I could change the name used for the next group of photos.

Renaming each file is too time-consuming when you've taken a lot of shots. My best solution is to reorganize my photos into folders and then use a batch renaming utility. For example, if I take three sets of shots and they get the names "Rosalie_001-Rosalie_060," I'll put them into three folders and have the utility quickly rename them to "Rosalie01-Rosalie20," "my house01-my house20," and "sunset01-sunset20." Photoshop and Photoshop Elements include this feature; there are also several utilities that work on the desktop level.

I know its a pain but I just email them to myself. Then I can name them anything I want and put in a description too if needed.

Thank you all for the great answers. Lot's of solutions but none are what should be the simple one and that is being able to name each pic as it's taken. I wonder why that is.

The only other option is to be able to rename each one differently I have noticed is to log out and in when saving images to hard drive.

I used to email to myself, or to Flickr or Snapzilla. It was quick and easy, and I loved it. But I discovered that SL is unstable (really? imagine that!), and more than once the emails did not go through, and the images were lost forever. I lost some important pictures that way. So now I do the hassle thing of saving to hard disk first too. I just name the first one with the date, and then it numbers them in sequence after that for that date. I go in later and rename them. It's easy to just pick them by date to do it.
