Wow, anyone else have this happen? I don't know if its connected to LL/SL but my bank says that I have to have a new card because of a fraud investigation.

Yes, a couple of times, but not recently and not because of SL. Lots of ways credit card numbers can be compromised - like, for instance, an inside job...

I received a call from my CC company asking if I had really bought lindens.
Makes me wonder what is going on. I have been buying stuff for a long time in SL with my CC
and never got a call about it.

There could be any number of a hundred scams perpetrated on you at the local level that could be equally responsible for your bank Reissuing your card, The bank will tell you it's an investigation, But they will never tell you who you were scammed by.

credit card fraud

I wanted to weigh in on this issue. I have been contacted by my credit card company several times when I have purchased Linden$. The transactions look suspicious to them because they are coming from London. I have approved the transactions when they contacted me because I did indeed initiate them. HOWEVER, yesterday (8/14) I received a call from my card company asking if I made 2 charges totaling $500 US for sporting goods in London. Obviously someone has gotten my credit card # from Linden as I have not been in the UK. My call to Linden customer service was of no use. The CS rep said they began doing their billing out of London in April/May 2007. I am, however, going to followup with Linden's fraud unit. I urge everyone to be cautious about this as there is no way of knowing how widespread of a breach this is.

Not another breach...!

I got my card re-issued, because of a (the) previous breach. LL is the only entity I know of that I use that had such a breach.

Has happened to me 3 times. Not related to LL as far as I can tell. The last time it was from a rather large department store chain.

My issuer routinely blocks things from LL. I have told them numerous times that the charges are authorized, but they are conservative when it comes to fraud (and protecting themselves) .. so it requires phone calls.

Dearly Darlings,

After the security breach with LL I was very careful. Glad I was. Someone used my American Express card for several thousand dollars of porn. As I only use that card for the kennel (I let my employees play here when there is nothing left to do.) it was easy to get it taken off. But now I check for anything on every card every day.

You all have a lovely afternoon!

Ever Yours,

Mrs. Showdog Tiger

Mine started doing this when LL went to billing AR from the UK. and now each month I have to sit on the phone explaining that it is OK for those charges to go through.

This may, or may not, explain why my bank deactivated my CC. I just tried to use it to buy lunch and it was pronounced dead on scan. Not a nice thing to have happen. *blush*

I attempted to purchase some lindens for shopping the other evening and upon looking now it shows still pending.

Skippy! I was afraid it was something really bad.

Now to deal with my bank.

You know the scariest thing about this? What if the person stealing the card number or compromising the account is an Iraqi or Lebonese TERRORIST or someone who donates to an organization that Bush or any subordinate of the Executive branch* deems to be a terrorist organization? According to Bush's recent executive orders, all your assets and all your family's assets can be seized. There appears to be no limit on the level of indirection. Thus anyone who pays someone who pays someone who pays a "terrorist" entity or insurgent is potentially affected by this order. No judicial recourse is provided.

Jul. 17 Executive Order: Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq

I'd summarize it for you all, but like most legal statements they are one long run-on sentence that defy partial quotation.

This is a must-read for all Americans.

See my "Alert" thread.

Again I would like to take this time to thank those that are either trying to find ways around the gambling ban and those that have ignored it.
