It was two years ago to the day that one of the most exciting action filled RP games within Second Life came to an end. Since that time I’ve found nothing in SL that comes close to what IAL offered. There were clearly defined character roles so you knew who the bad guy was. Plenty of tasks, simple to use HUDs and beautiful, well thought out builds that included Central Park, China Town and Coney Island. And fun! If anyone who remembers IAL-SL has come across anything in SL that offers the same level of action or excitement, please share.

I remember hanging out in Hanja and finding the IAL avatars homed there who "died" and wanted a trip back. We created a bunch of landmarks for different spots of the welcome area and renamed them all "I Am Legend - Resurrection", "I Am Legend - God Spawn Cheat" and so on... =^-^=
We'd give them out left and right to the "dead" players, telling them they were cheat codes for the game and if they used them right they would get infinite life, better weapons, and special advantaged spawn locations. (^_^)
Then, when they used'em and wound up TPing simply to another spot in the quad, we'd start pointing out things that they may be doing wrong or tell them that they've been caught cheating, or simply give them more landmarks to other spots with "Try this one, it should be better". Some would deal with the run around for more than an hour while we just kept them in circles over why they can't make it back to the game. =^-^=
So, yeah, I miss IAL too. It made for a good laugh. (^_^)y

I Miss it too!! WAH!! What fun we all had gathering body bags, hunting and being hunted. Heck we all created Battle Alts for the thing. Henly's Are Legend group is still alive. Sigh. I wish LL had found a way to keep the thing going because it sure beat the pants off of any other FPS in-World. My alts still have all their IAL stuff too. Central Park at Midnight... make it GREEN!! lol

TPing was verboten as were gestures, but when you were deaded, you could still herd folks around..lol but folks were not sent home, you found a healing circle within the sims and only got sent home for tping or gestures.

This might help for those who were not around or unfamiliar with the game. http://iamlegendsurvival.warnerbros.com/I’m surprised they still have the site up. Of course you cant join from that site anymore. In short there were four classes of players in two groups. The uninfected humans and uninfected dogs competed against the infected humans and infected dogs (Dark Seekers). The objective of the humans was to find a cure to the plague and gather up supplies from the numerous body bags that would appear. The uninfected or Dark Seekers task was to keep the humans from getting to the body bags and killing mass numbers of humans. Standing around chatting wasn’t much of an option. The game was fast paced even with the lag. Teamwork was beneficial to the uninfected ones but a good infected team was pretty much unstoppable. You wore a HUD that monitored vital stats and there were scripted guns for the humans. The Dark Seekers were grotesque skinned avatars that slashed at the uninfecteds. You picked up an avatar at orientation but many people added their own flair to make for some pretty creative characters. I Am Legend-Survivor had its own API so there was a steady stream of new residents joining SL through the site. At any given time you could find people there going at it having a blast. Immy what was fun was waiting at the end of the bridge for the over anxious newbies who just wanted to find the cure without taking a moment to learn some SL basics. Kind of like the CSI NY crowed that showed up just to solve the crime. Anyway, the noobs made for a high kill ratio for the uninfected ones. Ultimately a cure was found and the game ceased shortly after the movie hit the theaters. Ive not experienced anything in SL with that type of action since.

I loved the IAL. Even managed get the #3 score. It really showcased how you could have a workable and fun FPS even in SL.
All the scripting and controls worked very excellent in there.

I miss it too I havnt found any RP in SL that is as quick and easy to get into as IAL !
In that game you would simply wear the free hud and free avatar of the side you were playing, and go hunting for the other side Then you would find the bases where your side hid during the day or night (depending on which side you were) and go out hunting with them in packs
It was that quick to get into the game
Many RP's in SL dont seem to want you to attack the enemy on sight, but in IAL that is what you were supposed to do.

From: Argus Collingwood WALT!!! We miss your snarling muzzle lol!! aww … down there at muzzle view brought a whole new meaning to “chasing skirt” and “goddammit, WALT!!” were some of the first words I heard in voice, lol yeah I really really miss it because I don’t get let out much since then. The free Dark Seeker avatar was creepy enough but there were some pretty creative additions, like the little girl in a frilly dress with a meat clever sticking out of her head.

Last year one of the hunts included free Alice and Mad Hatter avatars from American McGee's Alice (whoops, another copyright violation). The bloodstained lolita skirt and the straight jacket made a great combo.

Ah the many Kush kiddos. There were many clones but only one Kushinata Kohime. I miss those wild and crazy nights.

As you say: 'molded after the movie', which isn't to say that an RP version has to be the movie. Anyway, it was a very creepy book by Richard Matheson in the first place. Neither the Will Smith nor the Charlton Heston versions did it any great justice in my opinion. Check out the Vincent Price version in the public domain. You can download it here: http://www.archive.org/details/the-last-man-on-earth

The Vincent Price movie is still my favorite, followed by Omega Man- C'mon!! Charlton Heston & that 70s Machismo!! I wasnt too crazy about the Will Smith remake. It was a bit of a let down.

(this would be the recent version the sim was based off of, not the other movies or book that spawned it.

Why did they take it down, afterall? I dont recall.. From what I understand, it was created as a movie promotion and never intended to last much beyond the movies release date. I beleve the concept, coordination and implementation between the talented SL residents who created it, Electric Sheep Co (now defunct) and probably Warner Brothers would seem successful but apparently rare and should serve as a model for any such future endeavors. Linden Lab would do well to study IAL success
