Go to Help Island at any time and you'll see avvies stood right in the landing point to the effect that they stop avvies landing. Now for the experienced Second Lifer it's a simple matter to fix: Fly up and then to a different place and land. But for newbies it's not so simple and they can be seen struggling to land directly above avvies beneath them who are engaged in some form of inane public chat.

Now newbies I can forgive, but a quick look at the profiles of those standing in the landing point show's avvies a year or more old. Not only that but some of those avvies standing in the landing point are Mentors: Shouldn't Mentors know better?

Simple to fix: Put up a couple of notices telling people to move out of the landing area as soon as they are able and then enforce it! Then we can give newbies and others a decent experience when they go to Help island for help.

I used to be a helper to landing points. Maybe I can help. Those people who appear to be long-term residents are actually newbies in a sense who just stand around teh Help sites chatting inanely to each other. They treat sl as a type of chat room. Listen to their conversation and its always the same; a group of "guys" flirting with some girls or dissing some poor bastard who isnt around. They dont really "live" here, they just doss here.

You'll see the same thing at welcome areas. People will log in and simply stand in the rez-ring, or where ever the TP landing is. My guess is that they're either misplaced bots or IM zombies that aren't even aware they have an avatar in a 3D virtual world. (=_=)

Also, with the release of 1.21.xx, the new load times have affected people's entry into regions. I've gone from watching a whole region rez in up to a minute with the sculpties straggling behind, to what can be up to 10 minutes now and a screen full of gray sculpties. They may just be waiting to see their surroundings before lag-dozing everyone around them. (^_^)y

I always think of it in the say way as people congregating in and around the entrance to a RL store or event. Jes someting people do, an I dunno why.

herd mentality... if you don't know what's going on (world is still rezzing) or aren't in any danger (the world isn't gonna blow up) or don't see grass to graze (the people you're talking to are in shout distance) then you don't moooooo-ve

sorrry, yeah see that alot just about everywhere.

I will never forget being new, and my av was dancing and I couldn't make it stop. I tp'd to Help Island Public because I knew I had seen people there before who had a tag that said "Mentor". Imagine my surprise when I asked...no BEGGED for help and was completely ignored. They weren't afk, they were chatting. And me being me, after a few minutes of this, asked another newb if they could see my chat. He said yes, and I made a comment about how it must be invisible only to mentors. I ask again...and finally one answers me. He doesn't know.

I had to log off the game, go find the appropriate Torley tutorial (my good luck that I had seen those) and learn there about the 'stop all animations' option. On that day I decided that "mentor" must really be some other language for "don't look at me, I'm not getting paid".
