I'm the custodian for a community college's space in SL. I would like to set up several simple movie screens around the campus (one in the science center, one in the art building, etc.) and have each display a short movie. These movies would be exhibits with information about the science or art displayed, for example.
I've used Yadni's simple TV (thanks for the TV, Yadni) and modified the code in those objects so each TV displays a different MP4 movie from my personal web site. All of that works fine.
Unfortunately, if visitor #1 starts playing the "welcome" movie and then visitor #2 starts the "science" movie, the welcome movie stops as soon as the science movie starts. I know that is because a given parcel can only play one movie at a time.
So, is it possible to have two prims in a single parcel playing different movies at the same time? If so, how would I do that?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

You can accomplish what you want to do by splitting the parcel into two, both belonging to the original owner. Each parcel can have its own movie stream without disturbing the other.

You can have different people watching different videos at the same time in the same parcel but you need to code it as such. I have this implemented in a couple of places. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_AGENT

From: Wissen Shepherd So, is it possible to have two prims in a single parcel playing different movies at the same time? If so, how would I do that? Both of the responses are correct... and if a scripter has problems with PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_AGENT, just contact me or post to Scripting Tips for help on that. But it's not terribly tricky. Just to make clear: there is a strict limitation of one media stream to any agent at any time. So, there's no trick possible for setting up multiple videos that can be viewed simultaneously by the same agent, no matter how anything is scripted nor how the parcels are divided up. (Well, I have actually seen such a "trick" but it just used a single stream with two videos, offset in X. But that's some exotic video hackery, not scripting.)

I set up the campus for University of Houston so it has 7 different multimedia centers. Each school building is on its own parcel, to make it easy to support separate media streams. I found that to be the most logical setup for a college, so the faculty in each department could edit the notecard containing the URL's of the Media streams they needed to play in their building.
The sim is "HHP at UH", if you want a look at it.

To All:
Thanks for your thoughtful responses. I'm an old hacker at heart and will first try to work through the scripting solution (I find such challenges fun). However, I'm also more than willing to divide my parcel and will do so in a heartbeat if the scripting solution becomes too complex for me.
Thanks again.
