Hi!

I noticed lately that the lagmeter showed a lot of red on my sim (residential), so I started a bit of investigation. I am on a Mac OS X (10.5.2; 1GB SDRAM; ATI RadeonHD 2600; airport extreme) Im on the latest RC, basic + atmospheric shaders on and draw distance 136. Now I dont know exactly what all the info in the statistics bar tell you, but on my land its 7-15 fps. Everywhere I go its more than that, I went to a very popular place: 20-30 fps, a place with a lot of scripts (the same as mine) 30-35 fps, a place with both 20-30fps etc etc. All a lot higher than my land.. so it must be me
I am trying to find out what all the info in the statiscis bar means and how I can make it better, cos I have no idea whats causing it.. I have a lot of sculpty trees and an amount of scripted things like butterlies and animals, but not more than the other locations I visited..
If anyone could help me on this that would be great! Thanks :-)

If the Sim FPS is that low, something is very wrong. Open the statistics bar, click on the Time (ms) line to drop down the time statistics and see what numbers are big.

The Total Frame Time is is the sum of the numbers below it. It should be ~22ms or less. If it's significantly higher than 22ms, then see which of the times below looks bad. Script time will be in the teens of ms, but the others should be very low. In my sim, for instance, they are around:-

Net Time 0.4
Sim Time (Physics) 0.1
Sim Time (other) 1.5
Agent Time 1.0
Images Time 0.0
Script Time 13.6

I recently had an occasion when the Sim FPS dropped drastically. I could see from the Time figures that the physics time was way too high. It turned out that a flying machine was stuck in a megaprim, and it was sorted out quickly.

Btw, it's the Sim FPS that matters, and not your personal FPS. The Sim FPS is under the Simulator list in the statistics bar

Then the sim is ok. It should be 45 - that's the totally healthy number.

Phil,
Here's what it says:
total frame time 2,3
net time 0.1
Sim time (physics) 0.4
Sim time (other) 0.2
Agent time 0.1
images time 0.0
script time 0.7-1.1

what do you think?

It's good, except there's a puzzle. The Total Frame Time should be the total of the times below it, and 2.3 is way more than the total. Perhaps it was 2.3 briefly while one of the other times was briefly high. 2.3 isn't bad anyway, and shouldn't produce a personal FPS as low as you stated.

It's possible that your sim is being affected by one or more of the other sims that are in the same box.

I don't think there's a way to find out from LL. I've think I've seen a website linked to that might contain the data, but I've no idea where it is or where to find the link. If you are able to use live chat, I'd ask why the stats look good but you are getting such a low personal FPS in the sim.

There are a couple folks here that came to my land to see why it was so laggy. They found nothing wrong at all on my land, but the neighboring sim seemed to have a script or something not working properly. I'm IM'd the owner to check it out, but he hasnt been on in awhile and its still laggy. I've also had a Linden come out and they said the same thing, something with the neighboring sim is affecting the lag on my land. You might put a ticket in, or maybe someone from the forums could come out and check also for you.

This is good info to have.

Last night I was having way more issues than normal.....everywhere I went seemed overly laggy and my lag meter was blinking like a christmas tree from green to yellow to red. I had dropped my draw distance way down and reduced some settings.... but I never looked at those numbers. I'm gonna keep an eye on that stuff next time I'm in world cause I really need to work on my geek rating. I know a lot, but not enough.

Me and the estate owner did some more investigation and I think it might be the combination of my graphics card or mac and the textures. Does anyone know how to read that in statistics? I have a lot of sculptie trees.. For sure its not the scripts or particle emitters cos I took em all away and made no difference
