The best preference setup depends on so many things on top of connection speed, in fact your graphics card is most likely to be the bottle neck of your performance. The best thing to do is just have a play around with it, try it at all the different settings and see how you get on.

I'd say those that are related to your connection directly can be ramped up. Those that are graphics related will be affected by your hardware, graphics card and RAM, so getting a better connection may not make much differernce.

Maximum Bandwidth on the slider is 1.5 mbps, so you won't be getting any data from SL at 10 mbps.

As others have said, the maximum is 1.5mb on the network slider. Don't be surprised if you don't notice a difference.

A 1.5 mbps connection might give you a noticeable increase in performance if your old 2mbps was bottlenecking and not letting your CPU and graphics perform at their maximum. It's quite possible your 2 meg connection was closer to 750 k to 1 meg so if you can get above the 1.5 limit SL imposes you might see a significant difference. However if you already recieving data at close to the 1.5 you won't notice a thing.

Play around with the slider to see. If you start seeing unusual or increased packet loss back it off till it goes away. You should be able to max it out.

it'll help with multiple apps running on the net though... in addition to bandwidth slider you could play around with the avatar compsite settings and mesh detail... at least until you hit the limit of your vid card

lets say , you can use only only 10% of your bandwith for downloading, that means max you can use out of 10mb is 1 mb, so pls dont be shock,

this is same for everywhere, if you have 2mb internet you max download speed will be about 240kb/s , when i used to have dial up 56kb/s my max download was about 5-6kbs,
then i had 1 mb internet, my max speed become 124kb/s
last year i bought 2mb option, and now i have 240 kb/s and im from ireland, not iraq

so as i quess everybody does use 10 % of there internet speed or what they have got,

am i right ?

you can modify the values of the throttle in the debug list.

list of components that play an important role in rendering SL sucessfully:

1) very good video card
2) very good CPU
3) very good internet connection

This impression may be the result of different units. The bandwidth is usually specified in (mega/kilo) bits per second, while most download progress counters are in (mega/kilo) bytes per second, after unpacking and error correction. So with 8 bits per byte, plus the other overheads, the latter is usually about 1/10 th of the former.

In other words, 8M bits/second data rate = 800 kbytes/second files download.

I'd put cpu on the bottom of that list, I run under a 700mhz machine
