Should I be concerned about this or not ?

Last night while waiting for me to log in, a friend searched for my Avatar name in Google. I have no problem with this at all but I am a little concerned about what they found.

A site with the name of Despairingly.com showing my profile photo and the "about me" details. I have absolutely no idea how this site got my name although I am assuming it was from the SL People Search.

Instead of trying to decribe the site I am including a link so you can have a look for yourself. Probably there is absolutely nothing at all to be concerned about but I would like to hear your views and opinions. I would have contacted the site owner and asked him or her to remove my picture and details but I do not have a contact name.

The link is

http://www.despairingly.com/rayanna-shelman.html

BTW Mino Volcan is definitely NOT the last place I visited, I had never even heard of the sim until last night.

Thank you

Rayanna

/me would not worry about it.

If you do contact them, you risk having your RL email tied to your avatar name. Just ignore it.

They're just trying to build a database of Second Life users to spam in email.

They ask you for your email to allow you to make a search, rite?
Did you give your email to them? ;)

Anyway, people should realize that Google is here to stay. Those who have material to hide, better don't join anything.

No, they ask for your email address and in return they give you 5 Lindens. Obviously I did not give them my email address :)

so, how did you find yourself there?

http://www.despairingly.com/rayanna-shelman.html
exists there.

http://www.despairingly.com/marzial-box.html
doesn't exist there.

There must be a reason for it... any clue?

btw, I love the fact that everytime I refresh that page the "Lindens Paid counter" goes one unit up...

The only reason I knew about my profile on this site was because one of my friends searched my avatar name in Google.

Like you Marzial, they also looked to see if there profiles were on the same site but no, they were not.

I do not have a clue why my profile is there as I am always very careful about which groups I join and I do not accept group invitations unless they are from groups I am familiar with.

Looks like a typical scam site to me, with some screen-scraped information so that it looks legit to Google (and maybe some casual browsers). If it were me I wouldn't worry, though I'd find it distasteful that some jackass is using my profile to scam people.

Very interesting; I hadn't thought to search this name, before. I don't seem to be on Despairingly.com (what a site name!!!!) but am on one that seems to be similar.

It contains some incorrect information, which I presume to be an additional come-on for those who don't feel as the OP does. In other words, even if you're not likely to Log On (thereby giving them your marketable contact info) to ask them to remove you, you might be likely to Log On to correct the mistaken parts of their posting.

(I also discovered to my surprise that the Newbie Blog I'd been writing last year is still searchable...I'd have thought it would have vanished into oblivion long ago.)

A quick DNS Stuff Whois Lookup reveals the site to be associated with http://disturbingly.com/

Visiting that site gets you some stats about bots and camping, so it would seem that the profiles available via despairingly are obtained by one of the two. Bots could do it easily just by being nearby, but if you've camped any of their places, it's also likely that it was obtained that way.

Then again... I'm unsure if they handle campers at all, or if they're just camping bots... either way, I don't really get any personally useful information, just something to do. If this sheds any light for you, then yay.

I'd assume that person to be the one who owns the website ._.

Interesting.. Apparently there's some real life Dana Hickmans that are quite successful... Bitches! lol
The only things related to my profile that were found are the comments I've made on SL blogs, and on the 'voted for' listing for issues I voted for on Jira.

Ok, if they pay L$5 per email addy (wooo what an offer), why doesn't the lindens paid number always end in 0 or 5? This disturbs me.
