Mainland Question - Continent/Sims - Boating

Is there a way to tell within SL, or a map available, that would tell me where a sim is located within a given continent ? I've been using the map button within SL, but I still need to know what continent .

Also, as a person who wants to go boating over on the mainland, is it possible to boat from one continent to another ?

Any additional information would be appreciated..

Thank you,

Go to NCI and get their grid maps - all you have to do is zoom out and you can see where you are, relative to half a dozen named continents.

You can boat from Sansara (the Old Mainland) to Heterocetera, but that's the only one.

For sailing, I'd recommend Sudane's New England regions - or you can go start at Zatzai's Artificial Isle and sail north - hundreds of sailable regions there.

For that matter, you can also sail the Realm of the Roses (Brythony, Winterfell, Caledon, Lovelace) if you don't mind the occasional navy frigate or pirate, depending if you want to participate that way.

If you intend to interact in a manner beyond just sailing around, fly the appropriate 'friend or foe' ensign before you unleash your cannons.

You are welcome to rezz your boat at our parcel in the NW corner of Kang Nae sim.
That's on the edge of the new 30-sim Korean channel.
Sail South and around Ichelus island. The volcano is quite spectacular - although right now, the eruptions have ceased. It seems to be a work in progress.

You can also rezz your boat in our harbour in the SE corner of Eldfell sim in Corsica continent.
You can sail up into Corsica or South into the Nautilus continent.
I've also turned on build in our parcel in the SE corner of Nebo sim in Corsica. That's closer to the void sims linking Corsica and Nautilus.

Add:
Be careful to stay clear of Kinrara sim when going between Corsica and Nautilus. The sim is ban-lined.
You can't see the ban lines before you hit them as they are on the sim boundary. Minimap is your friend.

Navigation around Kinrara:
There is a Linden passage cut out of the NE corner.
I've put a N Cardinal mark on the NW corner near Nebo. There is a Linden corner cutout of Nebo between that and our SE Nebo parcel - but you can sail through our parcel anyway :)
There is 16m wide band of Linden water running along the S boundary of Kinrara that allows passage into the Linden sims to the E and W of it.

Periwinkle to the Northern Continent

In the mainland sim (northernmost corner) you can sail from at least Periwinkle through Purple to the Northern continent. There are four void sims that connect Purple to Cecropia in the Northern continent.

I've not sailed to the south or west of Periwinkle in a while so I'm not sure if the waterways are still passable. When looking at the map it appears that there are still passable waterways in both directions.

You are welcome to rez your boat at our dock in Periwinkle on the south side of the sim, near the park and tube rides.

Good luck and be sure to let us know what you find!

Any recommends to decent cheap small sailboats? I'd like somethin similar to my RL boat, a 25' that I lived in for 6 months. I have some freebie boats that are worthless, and a nice transport an old landlord gave me but its too fast and not pretty to look at. I want to explore some of these routes you guys mentioned!

You can boat from Sansara (the Old Mainland) to Heterocetera, but that's the only one.
/me gets "that tic" again and harkens to the sound of a million late entomologists whirling in their graves.

I believe you meant Heterocera. However, I'll propose at the next meeting of the Taxonomic Committee of The Society for the Study of Biological Stuff that Exactly Nine People Care About that when we tire of the Recitation of Taxa *organ music* we may resort to merely chanting "Heterocetera, Heterocetera, Heterocetera...."

corsica and the 2 continents south of it are connected since 2008.
While i found no way to get a region name just by telling a region coordinate I made a map of the first continent and of corsica out of one prim per region that shows the minimap like in that region radar.

its 700-900 prims/regions per continent and nice for preloading the GREY SHIT THAT LL DARES TO CALL A MAP!
