When does land become abandoned?

There's a 512 plot of land that I border on 3 sides in my home sim... it's had an awful plywood "construction" and "buy pass" ban lines for at least a year.. the owner dissapeared from search almost exactly a year after his rez day so I guess they had paid annual premium membership and it had finally lapsed.

I put in a support ticket and was told it wasn't available "at this time", so I'm guessing they keep a residents assets around for a short time so that they have a sporting chance to renew their membership.

So my question is, has anyone had similar experiences of trying to prise obviously abandoned land out of Linden Labs grubby mits, and knows realistically how long it will take before they take ownership off the previous tenant after membership lapse?

I'd give it a month between the time they poof from search and the time you ask LL to reclaim/auction the land.

You should also double-check that they're not in search any more before poking them again.
