How can I trust this viewer?

When what I see is not what others see. I look fine to myself - I go to the hangout and I'm told that I am topless - and given a pic to prove it.

How the hell can I ever have any faith in this damn client?

i know..i go to a place toppless and they tell me i have clothes on..the lies are strong in this viewer

it's not the view that's lying... it's the asset servers... seen a lot of this the past few days, along with missing textures that take 3 rebakes to show up... =/

As much as the servers have screwed up lately, and as many times as I've shown up bald or with a shoe up my rear, that is the first time I have looked fully clothed to myself and very very not clothed to someone else - not just that darn missing texture thing, but absolute boobies showing in all their splendor.

And what nice boobies they are.

Does the baking process ensure you are appearing correctly to everyone? If one other person sees you correctly does that mean that everyone else will see your correctly or is it still a toss up on how you appear to each person?

And yeah I really hate the way you really just can't be sure. You could be dancing, you could be covered in missing textures, you could be ruthed, you could have prims up your butt, all sorts of things could happen to you making you look ridiculous and you would not have a clue because everything looks fine on your end.

Well, one thing for sure if you are in a club..........it sure stirrs up the conversation. Really, guys, it's just an avatar......not like you are sleep walking in real life inside the local 7-11 and you are in your full glory. LOL

I dont mind being topless I suppose, but when people tell me I am Ruth or, worse...bald. Oh make it stop!

I've found that putting on skins, clothes, jewelry, etc, and then just hanging out in the current sim for a minute or two, before teleporting, really helps. If I change clothes/hair/etc and then TP right away, I end up bald or naked to other people. Waiting for a minute before teleporting seems to help.

baking should resend the textures from the client of the person doing the rebake to all viewers in range.... that doesn't mean the sim being slow will handle it well and everyone will get it... but the odds are better.

Baking happens client-side and the resulting textures are then uploaded the sim. You'll see your own baked textures, others will see the baked textures they download from the sim.

When you tp from one sim to another, the sim you were on sends your baked texture to the sim you're tp'ing to. If you just changed and tp away right after there's a good chance the new sim will end up with either an old baked texture or you'll be "missing image".

If you look fine to someone else you should look fine to everyone else as well (unless their viewer decides to use the manual composite feature, see below), although you should still wait before tp'ing away if you just changed or rebaked (or tp away, but remember to rebake as soon as you arrive). The "official" recommendation was to wait an additional 10 seconds after you stop rezzing in for yourself before tp'ing/crossing a sim border or longer is there are a large number of avies on the sim.

If a baked texture (for someone other than you) is corrupt (on download, or on the sim) or missing altogether, the viewer can still attempt to render you properly (although at a performance cost) by downloading the clothing you're wearing and then render the textures one on top of the other for every frame. That's what the "Outfit composite limit" was for, although the setting for that vanished a while ago so they may have scratched that feature altogether.

Does the same apply to prim attachment locations and prim attachment textures? I don't like the idea of finding my nose up by ass, especially now that I have teeth.

Usually when anything gets dislocated, everyone else still sees things in their proper spot. However, I have seen a friend's hair stuck in an unflattering place while on their screen it was on their head (hasn't happened for months now though).

I usually just tend to tell someone if something about them looks wrong, so far noone has reacted badly even if I don't know them and I'd hope other people would tell me .

I had actually been at my home for quite a while after changing before I TP'd specifically because I was having difficulty getting the clothes on. So I did do the rebake and wait until I saw everything properly. Apparently that wasn't quite enough.

Sounds like it is all still a crap shoot, especially when SL is acting up (a large amount of time). So, I'll just make a note that whenever I have having any trouble dressing, I will be sure to log in an Alt to verify what is being seen by others and/or make my first TP to a mature sim.

I don't necessarily mind being topless, but I still don't think I want to TP into a crowd that way and not know it. Hell, if the guys are going to me admiring my assets, I want to know about it.
