Recently when I go into edit and try and stretch an object, the object doesn't stretch but another copy appears of the thing I'm trying to stretch. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. Any idea how to fix it or what could be causing it?

Let's be sure you are holding Ctrl and Shift to stretch, not just Shift {:

Just to rule out hardware trouble, does it make any difference if you try the second set of shift and ctrl keys on the other end of the keyboard? Do you still have problems if you click stretch in the edit window instead of using the keyboard?

Just to be sure, please check the radio button to stretch instead of using the keypad.

Control-Shift under edit mode is the way to make identical copies, as you found out. When I want to stretch something, I click the Stretch radio button under edit, and small white cubes appear at the corners of an invisible rectangle enclosing the object. Drag on one of these "handles" to stretch the object in all directions at once. There are also small colored cubes in the middle of each face of the invisible rectangle for stretching it in only one direction. Blue is always the vertical axis, and red and green are the two horizontal ones. There may be another way to stretch, but that's the one that works for me.

It happens no matter if I check the circle in edit or use ctrl + shift

sounds like you have a stick shift key to me.... make sure it isn't stuck
are you getting the stretch handles (little cubes at the corner/sides), and not the axis handles(little arrows)? if you press just ctrl are you getting the rotation rings? if all that seems right, and a relog hasn't fixed it, you might want to bug report it _____________________

Try not holding crtl/shift and instead just clicking on the stretch box in your edit menu.

I get the little cubes, and the rotation ring. This has been going on for about 2 days now. I grab the litte cubes to stretch something and another copy appears.
Thanks all for your help. Looks like I have some sort of bug. ![]() |

This sounds really odd. You might try throwing this at the Building tips forum, too. See whether anyone else is having this problem.
If it is a bug, hopefully it'll just go away again, unless LL decides to make it a feature ![]() |

If this happened to me, I'd probably reinstall the viewer {:

If this happened to me, I'd probably reinstall the viewer {: Good advice. It appears something is corrupted. I recommend: 1) Uninstall the viewer. 2) MANUALLY delete the SL config folder (save your chat/IM logs elsewhere if you want to keep them). 3) Download the viewer from the website. 4) Install the viewer. When you run it, it will act like this is your first time, giving you tips for new users and all that. Now if after all that, it is STILL acting up, you need to test to see if the problem is your computer or your account. To do this, try the following and check the results: 1) Log in on the same computer, but with a different account. Create an alt to do this if you don't have one already. 2) Log in to your account through a different computer. If you can do this at your currently location and you are still having the problem, try logging in from a computer elsewhere, preferrably on a different ISP. If you establish the problem is with your account, you can contact LL for support to get it fixed. If it turns out to be your computer, and it is not fixed by a clean reinstall (including deleting the config folder), then we can explore more diagnostics. Keep us posted so we can learn what has worked and what didn't. ![]() |
