Can anyone tell me what the letters mean on the General tab when editing an object? You can see it if you check on Debug Permisssions under the client menu. They look like this:

B: VMCT O: VMCT G:

E: N: V T F: T

This has been sort of bugging me for days...lol

  1. V: Move -- can move it

  2. M: Modify -- can modify it

  3. C: Copy -- can copy it

  4. T: Transfer -- can transfer ownership to another

  1. B: Base -- The permissions that everything else is based on

  2. O: Owner -- The permissions that the owner has

  3. G: Group -- The permissions that people in the same group have

  4. E: Everyone -- The permissions that everyone else has

  5. N: Next -- The permissions that the next owner will have

  6. F: ??? Folded? -- The effective permissions that the current owner has, with temporary and content flags folded in?

heyas;

yes, i know this is old, but this information is still not available on the wiki, and torey linden recently highlighted it in a blog, sooooo....

if anybody can confirm these meaning?

i thought V meant "view." especially as it applies to scripts...? (where no copy means no lookie and copy-pasty, ya know?) especially since i see V's on scripts, and how do you 'move' a script? but, i could be wrong.

also thought B meant "builder." but "base" makes more sense, since the builder can always do anything, hm? i'll have to look on an object i haven't made, that isn't full perms.

F i *think* might be "Friends"? i have one friend who has permission to edit my objects, and my Fs are always VMCT. i'll have to test it, though. at first i thought it was "Final," as in what perms someone would have after the Next guy. but that doesn't make sense, either.

ps: for those just tuning in:

ctrl-alt-D (NOT delete, the letter D!) will bring up the debug menus (client and server, to the right of the help menu)
ctrl-alt-shift-D if you have ctrl-alt-D hotkeyed for something else.

now in the client menu, you can turn on debug permissions, and see these nifty little secret decoder ring codes in the edit and properties palettes.

I was trying to remember where I read this and finally did (hint, it wasn't the blog) after searching for velocity everywhere... ...from the archived Linden Answers forum and Kelly Linden: http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=139303

F = full
V = velocity

Now it occurs to me to just quote that entire post since links still are turned off... ;)

From: Kelly Linden
First, you see this because you have 'Debug Permissions' enabled. This is in the Client menu I believe.
B: Base permissions. The object can never be more permissive than this.

O: Owner permissions. The permissions the owner currently has.

G: Group permissions. The permissions group members currently have on the object.

E: Everyone permissions. The permissions everyone else has on the object

N: Next Owner permissions. The permissions the next person to own the object will have.

F: Full or Folded permissions. The permissions of the object as a whole including all permissions of the objects contents. For example, an object with a No Copy content item may itself be copyable, but is not copyable as a whole because of the content item.

V - "Velocity" This is actually for 'can move'.

M - Can Modify

C - Can Copy

T - Can Transfer
