I'm very interested in becoming a DJ and spent a bit of time yesterday looking for some good stream deals. I found some but am a little wary to just straight out pay for something and get ripped off.

So i was hoping you lovely people on here might have some suggestions on where i could get a pretty good stream that rents monthly for about 600L to 700L with 25 or more listeners.

Thanks guys :-)

I DJ just for fun every now and then just with my friends and I use these guys who I have found to be quite reliable. I also like the fact that since I do it so infrequently that I can rent a 25 Slots/6 Hours 192kbps for only 25L which is more than enough for an impromptu session. I've never tried anything longer term with them but there are many different options you can try at quite cheap prices. https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&MerchantID=222882&&sort=price&dir=asc

If you're not DJing constantly, it might be worth it possibly for you just to pick up a 25L stream on the fly for when you play sets.

Thanks that's actually a good idea, i'll look into doing something along those lines aswell. If i rented a stream for 6 hours does the information come through pretty much straight away or does it take a little time to come through?

it comes through right away as both a blue pop up and as an instant message with all the relevant details such as the stream url, port number and password. you'll also get a reminder when your time is almost up to see if you want to renew (only once so it's not spammy). you can also pick up a hud to manage your stream to renew and stuff from the in-world store which i've never really used.

I find it really handy since most stream places I looked at before had longer term commitments which I really don't need since I don't DJ as a job and this place was the only one I found where you could just rent short term. I think they also have staff online for any support questions and from the few times I've rented, I never had any issue with quality or service so well worth a try for only 25L.

Hi

This sounds really great. Is it possible to also stream from a web page outside of SL too with the info they give you ? ie with WMP, Winamp and Real Player ? I know how to do this with embedding the code, just wondering if it is possible with this company based in SL ?

I use SAM Broadcaster and help out with a community radio station and we are looking to do one off radio streaming, ie one day a week, so we would only really want to pay for a days access to a web stream at a time. I've not come across a company doing a short term service like this before and their rates do seem to be pretty amazing.

ooh cool, just looked at their website ... http://www.streamnetworx.net ...and they operate like a regular streaming company and provide all the login info that can be used to make it run outside of SL too.

Awesome!!! thanks for this info Joshooah.

Oh great because I was just about to reply back saying I wasn't sure how it would work streaming outside SL. Glad it was helpful :)

If you aren't DJing regularly, it's probably best to get a daily or a weekly stream. I get my monthly from Snooks (150 listener, 128kb) for about 1600L. They have weeklies, though I'm not sure how much they cost. Dailies are about 79L.

I DJ between four and five nights a week, and only one of the clubs provides their own stream, so a monthly suits my needs. If you're only doing a couple nights here and there, and "just trying it out", I'd suggest getting a stream for a shorter time period.

Feel free to get the landmark from my picks inworld.

I like MUSECAST because you can adjust it automatically as you need it. A 96kbs stream with 30 listener is $800L. But you can choose how many listeners and length of time you want from a few hours to a few months. So if your a new DJ and you just want to see if it works for you - choose a week and then use the free HUD they provide and increase it as your listener base increases. They have servers in both the US and Europe.

I've occasionally used Musecast before, and it was reliable and flexible. It looks expensive now compared to the StreamNetworx prices, although in RL terms, it's still only pennies for a couple of hours' stream to 25 people.
