Connected to SL after restarting modem and router?

I just reset my router several times using the router's web page, and reset the cable modem using it's web page.

When I tried SL again I was still connected. This is completely impossible, a violation of physical law, isn't it?

I'm still connected. I should be redmapped and unable to move, at best, but I can teleport and move .

This has never happened before.

I think all that UDP stuff is "connectionless," and the viewer and sims allow a huuuuuge amount of time to span before saying the connection is lost, or sometimes the timeout doesn't work at all? (I often have a simulator drop me without my mini map going red)

I'm reeeeeeeally curious whether the "connection" can survive an IP change though :x

It can indeed happen if you have a constant connection, like cable. A friend had that a while ago. Of course, if you are on dial up like me, it would indeed be impossible.

I would think resetting the cable modem would interrupt the connectivity of the cable modem.

At any rate, a while later, I left the room for a few minutes, and SL was disconnected when I came back, for no apparent though nothing else was.

SL was having trougle last night, I wonder if such problems might cause it to fail or be slow to discover whether you are or are not connected.
