quick question- how to change females appearance?

Ive just started and it says it "cant change appearance until clothing and shape are loaded"...what does this mean? can anyone give me a simple solution please...

That was happening to me last night when I logged in.

I was 'ruthed' and grey, got that message.

I waited it out - hovered the mouse over my avatar - and it eventually cleared. But it took a few minutes.

I think it can happen if SL is busy, or in Laggy areas.

Ah, just realised you're new so you may not know what 'Ruthed' is.

"Ruth" is the "default avatar" (even if you're male, it seems).

She is short and has mid-length brown system hair and system clothes (if they appear, ie if you're not grey). And bre@sts - which look weird on a male avatar...

Anyway, appearing as Ruth is not uncommon, but it usually wears off...

Clearing your cache may help, but it usually an SL problem. All you can do is wait it out. At it's worst it has taken as long as 15-20 minutes for me to appear fully.

This can happen when SL is very busy or there is a problem with the Asset Servers - you have to wait until your clothing and body shape have downloaded into your inventory.

A simple solution is to TP to a less crowded area. When I crashed last night in an area with over 100 AVs around, that happened to me and my gestures never loaded until I relogged. It can also be affected by your connection speed if it's slower than usual too...

But usually when that happens, ten minutes later everything has loaded. If it hasn't in half an hour, find another sim (I don't know, but you might also check the sim stats, if there are lots of pending downloads that means the sim is busy/behind sending out stuff and there'll be an extra delay like opening notecards and scripts and textures and stuff...)
