I wrote to the programmers, but got no response, so maybe somewhere here will know.

I see it's a little bitty program, but how "visible" will it be to my IT Dept? Obviously, it's important to me that our bandwidth doesn't take such a big hit that it becomes noticeable!

Anyone know?

I'm guessing similar to full SL though I don't know.

It is logging you in, and streaming data that the things around you are there, as well as inventory and people so seems it would be similar.

So when you're using it, you're seeing all the same graphics you'd see if you were actually in SL?

I don't use it but my understanding is that it is a console based or text based program, similar to some of the LibSL stuff.

These programs do not download any of the graphics at all -- so it eliminates the largest part of the bandwidth which is the texture downloads.

They do have access to information such as where avatars are around them, that kind of thing, but it is much, much less bandwidth than normal SL.

No but you have alot of the same info, such as the objects around you. You can sit on anything around you (Maybe in the sim, i dont know), you can see a list of all the people around you, you can follow them, you can chat with friends, you can view your inventory.. alot of the information is loading but not graphics, so seems it owuld be similar though not quite as much, but its just a guess.

EDIT:: Atashi answered better ;)

I didn't know if it just kinda ignores graphics files or something.. I'm no programmer lol Iono how things work

No, you won't see any graphics. SLEEK is a text only type of interface. It allows very limited interaction with anything in SL. You get certain options like to look in your inventory or to chat. You can see a text list of objects around you and interact with them, such as sit in a chair.

Working with the source I've found that the objects your viewer sees seem to be controlled by your position and not by any request made by the viewer. So, even if you aren't interested in prims and avatars out to a minimum of 64m, the server insists on telling your viewer about them. Hit the map button to view the sim you're in and it recveives info from 247 sims. Your viewer may choose to do nothing with that information, but it receives it.

I believe the bandwidth used by sleek would be similar to turning off textures in the regular viewer.

What is SLeek, and does it have anything to do with vegans, or ... Canadians. If it's the vegans, trying to intoduce a vegetarian version of SL I'd definitely avoid it.

If it's the Canadians I'd wait for a bit as they're all due to disappear quite soon.

me/ whispers : LL doesn't like Canadians.

Thanks, although I've been using ajaxlife, when I can get into it.

Movable Life is about the slowest damn thing I've ever seen.

So my options are pretty much...ajaxlife, or get a new job (HA).

I've used sleek. Its really good for sitting in world somewhere and being able to IM with friends. Its not good for moving around, shopping or doing other non-text related things. It appears to be really low on resources and bandwidth, as I can run four alts on it while still running a regular or release candidate sl session, my graphics program, email, web browser, instant messaging programs and so forth.

I've used it to monitor my avatar for biz IMs while off playing something else (run sleek on the second monitor....)
