I haven't used appearance for over half a year, as at a certain point of time you are happy with the way you look. However, I wanted to change my make up yesterday, and - strange - when I go into appearance mode I am 180 degrees turned around. Quite difficult to do your make up when you see only your own back. Not only the avatar is wrong, also all the small adjustment windows show my back. Must be a simple answer to that, hopefully. Many thanks, Violet

I get this too.
I don't know why it is.
Luckily Ive made so many shapes I don't need to really "look" as much any more.

Hi Violet, Yeah, this is a known bug (ick.) They're working on it I guess. It's not fun, but there is a work-around. Go into the View menu, and choose Camera Controls. You'll get a little box with some arrows n stuff on it. You can use these to rotate around your avatar and zoom in on your face, body parts, etc.. It won't fix the "preview" in the edit appearance windows, but at least you can see what you're doing. In the meantime, let's hope they fix this dang bug!

As was mentioned, go to your menu and enable the Camera Controls toolbar.
You can use this toolbar to rotate the camera position around to face the avatar while you edit.
Have fun

I've found out if it doesn't work the first time get out of appearance mode then right click again to get back into appearance mode before you even turn around again. Generally works the first time, might have to do it twice at the most.

I've noticed that going into appearance mode seems to fail to rotate you correctly when your AO is on. Try turning off your AO and see if that works.

Even more fun is each time you switch from one part your editing to the next you get a view of the back of your head again

if you stand on a poser, with your back to your camera, when going into appearance mode it should turn your face to the camera... i've had success with that, altho i haven't been in appearance mode since before the last upgrade, so i dunno if anything's changed.

Most times I just click my AV and drag to the side (after the appearance editor loads up), which rotates around to the frontal view. It doesn't help the example images in the appearance editor itself, but those don't give you much anyway.

Press .. alt + left mouse drag .. zooms alt + ctrl + left mouse drag .. rotates alt + ctrl + shift + left mouse drag .. orbits
with the three keyboard buttons alt / shift / ctrl ( in singular or unison ) plus left click and drag with mouse it's possible to place your camera view anywhere.

Yeah, I'm always shocked when anyone uses the little movement control thing.

I believe this is bug VWR-2030 in JIRA, if you would like to vote for it to be fixed (again).
