COMPREHENSIVE DIRECTORY OF OFFICIAL SL: TWIITER, BLOG(S), SLim, etc.

Technology marches on - there are many new ways Linden Lab is communicating with the masses. I have not really paid much attention to these changes and now I think I am lagging behind. I remember a blog announcement about new mini-blog entries that were suppose to be subject-specific, I see some twitters every once and a while and teh plash screen has a link to TRim.

It is beyond me to keep track of it all too, but here is what I have come up with.

Subscribing to the RSS Feeds for the blog is the easiest way for me to follow along. I have a basic RSS reader on my Google homepage dedicated to SL feeds.

Within the individual blog categories there is also a little button on the upper left which allows you to subscribe to the RSS feed for only that section of the blog - OR - to choose email notifications.

Regarding email notifications, it is my experience that if you comment on any of the blogs you are automatically subscribed to be emailed whenever anyone else comments on that same blog entry. Personally, I find this annoying, but I no longer have to visit the blog at all in order to read it or the comments on articles I am interested in, which is a plus. (You can choose to unsubscribe from comments, but last time I was there you subscribe by default.)

Just FYI, Lias, tr.im, like tinyurl, bit.ly, is.dg and twurl are nothing to do with Second Life. They are URL-shorteners that you put a long URL into and get a much truncated URL back out of. Twitter only has a 140-character limit which would be wholly taken up by a longer URL, allowing no space for the text of the tweet itself, so the shorteners are used extensively by people on Twitter.

I prefer to get my Sl information from my dog. He is just as useful as anything LL can put out.

LOL. Honestly, I find following SLU much more informative than all the stuff I listed above, and a heck of a lot more fun.

(Even if you are only interested in "official" communications, SLU has a subforum that automatically reposts LL Blog entries and status reports. Keep an eye on it and avoid the feed reader all together.)
