Hmm. Would somebody like that actually be able to DJ in SL??? They can type out replies & take requests...whatever...still can play the songs & thank the crowd in chat & IMs ...just curious. I myself am gettin a ShoutCast server set up & I can speak, lol. Albiet, not as loud as I would LOVE to, bein' in a home w/ real thin walls & close neighbors who call the landlord when I play a guitar on #3 volume on the amp

sure they can, one doesn't have to be able to speak to spin music however a lot of folks like to hear a DJ speak, otherwise it is about the same as a radio station, except you could request songs

isn't that just odd. in life as a dj at a club you don't need to pay for each song played as far as i know, but here you would have to.

I have seen many who don't speak. IMO though it takes away from the whole DJ experience. I'd much rather listen to someone who talks to me now and then.

The voiceless DJ could use audio clips to add some sonic spice to this show.

Also if he dressed up as a robot like Daft Punk and did some crazy robotic moves. Yeah robotic audio clips.

Sure - I have done that myself. My microphone decided it didn't like me anymore and quit! Basically, all I used was a shout mic, and did my requests and everything via room chat. Just be sure to tell the club the reason when applying.

One of the reasons I stopped going to clubs (aside from being a bit of a stick-in-the-mud) is that the DJ's play the music on volume eleven and speak at volume one and a half. I never hear a word they say. Maybe your way would work for me.
[edit - I should say they often have a wildly different volume level for voice and music, not always]

One of my DJs never speaks, and she's wildly popular. So, if you have a great playlist, go for it

One of my favorite DJ's does not use voice, just text. She has a great colection of very good indy music. She does all her chat in text and the music never stops. From: Xio Jester Albiet, not as loud as I would LOVE to, bein' in a home w/ real thin walls & close neighbors who call the landlord when I play a guitar on #3 volume on the amp Crank it up to 11.

I might be in the minority here, but I find it jarring when a DJ speaks. Perhaps it's because I don't use voice; but I don't expect to hear human voices coming out of the computer when I'm in SL.
Plus, they never have anything to say that I can't already get from their display board (which they usually have)... "This one's for so-and-so, Randy Newman's 'short people,' blah blah" I don't care.
I'd be perfectly content with a DJ who, if she or he said such things at all, said them in chat.
As I said I may be in the minority but I cannot imagine I am completely alone. So if you wanted to try out being a DJ but didn't want to speak, I bet there would still be a market for your services if you otherwise offered something interesting. Just make it clear up front that you will be using chat instead of speaking over the feed.
