More Realism in Your Dwelling

Hi,

Like all SLers, I have a lot of fun (and use creativity) to furnish my SL dwelling. One day, I set out some wine glasses on the coffee table in no particular "order." I also set a kitchen chair in a position that was askew to the table. Suddenly, it occurred to me that those simply adjustments gave my dwelling a more lived-in look, which also made it appear more friendly and hospitable.

Then I realized that quite a few items are missing from my dwelling that would indicate a human lived there. Like, indoor and outdoor trashcans, a half open newspaper on the floor, a pile of mail, some dirty logs near the fire place, a vacuum cleaner plugged into the wall, a dish drainer with dirty dishes, and so on.

My suggestion is that adding those types of items to your dwelling, and keeping a few things a bit askew, could add more realism to your private SL experience.

I'm also wondering where those and other not-so-elegant items can be purchased in SL. Suggestions?

Thanks,
Avanti

True! A few items that are not set at right angles does make a place look more real. As for cleaning, I don't need a vacuum as the LLSCS (Linden Lab Secret Cleaning Service) clean most houses when the residents are offline. I believe there is a 'keep dirty' option for those who don't want their house cleaned.

I've got a Rolling Stone magazine with Hunter S. Thompson on the cover if you want it. And a surprising toilet...

I have a kitchen on slexchange that includes a trashcan *with* trash ... its only $35L for the entire set - the kitchen is for small apartments/parcels.

In professional game development, things are very very rarely at right angles.

Me, I aspire to rl minimalism whilst being as equipped for it as a duck is fit to cook and flip pancakes ... so I like my right angles sometimes.

Oooh Lelia, do the trashcan separately!!!

I'm all for it, as long as you don't need the prims for something more important.

But re. the title of the thread...some of the most intriguing "residences" I've seen are the most UNrealistic. Skyboxes, treehouses, caves behind waterfalls, spaceships...

Well, if you're looking for pretty stuff there's lots of places. But NOBODY did trash like Arcadia Asylum, and all her splendid scripted and non-scripted freebies are all still available at her funky place, see her picks. And oh yeah, they're on SLX too, but hobotown is such a kewl gig ... it's much more fun to go to her place inworld! You feel special once you've managed to find it ....

Her vendors are a little different, you can either get the item shown in the pic or get a copy of the entire vendor, including everything it contains. So that if you ever need an open pizza box or stack of newspapers or flock of animated pigeons or burning trash can or roller skates or ... oh god it JUST goes on ... it's right there just a couple of clicks away :)

Be sure to get the dust devil by the door too!

p.s. oh and it's all 'open source' as well. That is, you can mod it, and give it, but not sell it.
