As a seller I hate SLX. It has a horrible unintuitive interface (yes, some people like it, but then some people like having cactus spines pushed into their privates) and everything takes twice as long as it should. As a purchaser, it seems fine, to be fair.
I much prefer ShopOnRez; it has an interface designed by somebody who is not actually a time-traveller from the past, for a start, and has the huge advantage that it offers free in-world networked vendors. I must say that in terms of web-only sales, I have always had many more from SLX. But I am now simply not updating my SLX account with any new products. Avoiding the annoyance is actually worth more to me now than any rewards I might receive. In-world sales have always been worth many, many times more in monetary terms anyway - and the fact that ShopOnRez has vendors is valuable there. _____________________

Oh, and I replied before the poll - my sales ARE better on SLX but I would not advise people to concentrate there at all, so I will not vote for that option.

1. Which do you prefer? 2. For Shopping? and Why? 3. For Selling? and Why? Please post your comments As a seller... 4. How are your sales on SLX and OnRez? 1. SLX 2. Yes, because search works better and there's a bigger selection. (Search still sucks, mind you, just better than OnRez still.) You know, I like the LOOK and interface of OnRez a lot more. I think it's really well designed. It just needs to be better searchable. 3. Yes, because more people go there. There are literally hundreds of people browsing SLX 24/7. People shop there because they have it all. It's sweet that there's no commission, but sales are more infrequent on OnRez too. 4. SLX: Fantastic. Better than in-world sales, and we do pretty well in-world. OnRez: Non-existent. Oh, there's also another web-based merchant just like SLX and OnRez: http://secondserver.net/ _____________________

Oh, there's also another web-based merchant just like SLX and OnRez: http://secondserver.net/ I had never heard of this place and thought I would check it out... it says... ![]() Closing down features Written by Adam Sunday, 20 May 2007 Been a long, long time since we've done anything with this site - close to two years since the last news update infact. We will be progressively closing down bits of the site as time goes on to make way for something a little different. New user registrations have been closed off for now, but existing users should still be able to edit their vendors for a while yet. Adam _____________________

I have not used OnRez since it's changed from SLB, and I decided to try and set up and see how it goes... I must say the set up process is so much easier than SLX, it's lot prettier to look at, loads pretty fast..
But... everyone I have spoke to says that there sales on OnRez is pretty close to nothing, why is that? _____________________

I don't use either (as a consumer). I did use SLex ages ago, but as the number of items piled on it became impossible for me to actually find things I was looking for between all the completely unrelated results (wading through page after page of sponsered listings in particular annoyed me).
When it comes to being exposed to stores and items I'm not familiar with, I'll rely on the selection of blogs I watch, word-of-mouth from friends and the occasional right-click in-world (put your store in your picks if you're selling something! ). |

I use both for selling.. and neither for buying. I tend to check them out for possible shopping and then hunt up a nice in world shop.

I sell more on SLX. I find setting up items for sale on either is about the same difficulty. Though you can pretty much reuse your ad text and images for both. I just keep slexchange open while I am editing my Onrez items and just copy/paste. Onrez looks prettier.
As a buyer... the search on either site outshines the in-world search. I like the 'send gift' options on both. Very useful... as both a seller and buyer... _____________________

For selling, I prefer SLX because the tools are better, the sales are better, and the support is better. Tools - you can track traffic as well as sales, see the numbers by product, download the data in CSV format, etc, all very easily. Sales are 5x better for me on SLX, probably because there's just plain more going on there. Service - SLX responds within 24 hours every time I've contacted them with support questions. OnRez / SLB is working more to a Linden Lab schedule, service is measured in weeks, in the few times I've contacted them.
Interface-wise, I prefer SLX's method (but I'm not into the cactus spines thing...) OnRez is better now, the old SLB one just plain didn't work right on a Mac (this was the actual cactus spines thing). Shopping, I do use SLX, their search is way better than inworld search. I frequently use SLX and in-world at the same time...like I find something inworld then check SLX as you sometimes get more info there, i.e. permissions sometimes aren't listed inworld but are listed on SLX, or a picture of an outfit doesn't tell you what exactly is included but the SLX listing does. I'll check OnRez if I can't find something on SLX but usually if it's not on SLX it isn't on OnRez either, in my experience. As far as 'better' or 'worse', really I use them both. They're both tools and as a content creator, the more exposure I can get for my wares, the better. As a shopper, the more options and choices I can get, the better. Edited to add: lol I do the same thing Bree - I set listings up on SLX first then leave that open and copy/paste into OnRez. One thing SLX has that either OnRez doesn't or I don't know how to do it, is in SLX you can use some bbcode in your listing, so you can bold / italic / colour / etc the body of your listing, have working urls and slurls etc. -Atashi _____________________

As a seller saddly SLX has more return.
As a buyer I prefer onrez because there is too much crap to sift through on SLX. Possibly going by sales alone isn't always the best choice. I never actually buy from either but use them as a search to look for specific items. I then go to the person's IW store to actually make the purchase. _____________________

Would add that I also love the gift option SLX offers. Only recently started looking at OnRez and while it agree it looks pretty, as a consumer it's not as easy to use as SLX. _____________________

I never used OnRez, and the one or two times I looked at SLX I didn't like the very small amount of information given. And one of the items I was looking at didn't even have a picture (and it was a 1000L item, guess the seller just assumed people would buy the item because of its name).
I much prefer exploring SL than being off on some 2d website. _____________________

I've been using SLX to look for items, but I haven' bought anything yet. When I see something I like, I find the vendor in SL and go to their shop.

One thing SLX has that either OnRez doesn't or I don't know how to do it, is in SLX you can use some bbcode in your listing, so you can bold / italic / colour / etc the body of your listing, have working urls and slurls etc. You can use normal HTML with OnRez. So I have an anchor tag with an slurl to my store. _____________________

I'm quite happy with SLX, both as customer and merchant.
OnRez, however, is the site operated (and renamed) by the Sheepbot crowd, and I refuse to have anything to do with it, no matter what they call themselves. |

I use both as a customer. However, I do not buy anything from either place as I will not use Paypal and do not want to give my payment info to yet another website. Therefore, I only use it to narrow my search for products and then buy them inworld.
If a product is not available inworld, I do not buy it from that seller. If the seller does not have a inworld location listed (not necessarily a link), I tend to put that on the list that, maybe, I will try to look up the seller later inworld if I don't find it anywhere else and hope they have their store listed in the picks or classified section of their profile. The sellers that get most of my business are ones that 1. have pics 2. have accurate descriptions 3. list prims counts and permissions and, most importantly 4. tell me where I can find them inworld with an UP TO DATE location to buy their product |

On SLX, you can include + in your search just like Yahoo to limit the results.
IE, search for this: +latex +racerback ...and you'll only get those styles instead of 80 pages! ![]() _____________________

my choice is not there
use the both, hardly any sales on either, but set them both up anyway, more exposure is always a good thing for one's products _____________________

1. Which do you prefer? 2. For Shopping? and Why? 3. For Selling? and Why? 4. How are your sales on SLX and OnRez? 1 - SLX. 2 - I don't shop. I build most of things by myself. 3 - Becose it works. The interface is cool and fast enought for me. OnRez is very slow. 4 - My sales in web shops (same products) are divided like this at this time: 99% SLX, 0.9% OnRez, 0.1% MetaMarket. OnRez is much much worst in sales for me than the old SLBoutique days.... back then my sales was almost 40% of my total web sales with the same products. _____________________
