Hello everyone,

I am looking for information on how to advertise an event in SL. I only need help about how to advertise in SL itself (no blogs, web pages, etc.).

What I am thinking of doing is putting up billboards, kiosks, and similar things around popular places in SL. If any of you have an idea about an advertising method I should look into please let me know. Also, If you or someone you know would be interested in renting (free and non free) a small part of your land for advertising this, please let me know.

The event is going to be for preparation for a SAT study. I am not organizing this event, just researching ways to promote this so I can not comment on prices, but let me know what you think is a fair price for your space and I will pass the information along.

The event will be an educational one so please do not recommend advertising in explicit locations.

Thank you for your help.

I was waiting to see how long it took for "ad farm" to raise it's head..... was going to do it myself but decided it was way to obvious ;)

Contact me in world please ... I have a limited amount of advertising space I can put onto some items in my mall ... so it's first come first served/most appropriate to my customer's requirements ...

SAT prep? Explicit locations? Ummm... unless the target market is cheaters, would there be much point to advertising anywhere outside the Teen Grid? Okay, maybe parents make those buying decisions, and there are always adult students.

Anyway, hopefully you know your market--you just have to figure out how to target them. It's a very specialized kind of service (at least for the Adult Grid population), so blanket advertising on billboards wouldn't be worth the time to set up, even if you were only paying per clickthru. If you know of relevant groups or venues where that market is likely to gather, you might be able to work some quasi-"viral" advertising by handing out free URL-emblazened T-shirts or (better) attractive clickable attachments dispensing notecard info; hiring "sandwich board" people to walk around the right spots; or placing your own temporary posters in "friendly" shops or gathering places.

LOL Qie ... I posted from work and forgot to say ... this was a generic 'contact me in world' cos SAT prep definitely isn't appropriate for my place!

Well ... unless you are the teacher anyway. Definitely no use to the students!

Advertising in SL will only be one part of the marketing campaign. Thank you for the ideas though, we may use some of them

Reach people through other means than polluting the mainland with signs no one will see. Thank you.

Definitely don't use ad farmers. I hope the mention of those was a joke. Ad farms actually have a negative effect for any advertisers using them. For in-world advertising of an in-world event I'd suggest making a group that people can join so that you can notify them before the event happens. As for billboards I would go to any high population region and ask the owners if they have some place to put up advertising. They'll be the ones to decide what kind of advertising you can put up. In your ad tell people to join your group.

I did look more closely at the Christian Community ad that was right between an ad with boobs on it, and another one with a woman's face in a B.J. expression, only because I couldn't see it very well after laughing myself to tears.

You can always list it in Events if it's just an educational or informational meeting. You can't list actual sales in Events. Do this through the SL website here:

Oh, and the previous people were right; unless you've got a bunch of 18 year old high school seniors out there, you might be better off advertising in the Teen Grid. I doubt parents come to SL to look for educational stuff for their kids!
