How do I focus my camera on a distant object outside, through a window?

Hi, I have a stupid question. It probably has a simple answer, but I can't find it.

If I am indoors and want to focus my camera on some object I can see outside through a transparent object (the window glass), how can I do that? As long as the object is in line of sight I can apparently zoom in pretty close, but I can't rotate my camera around the object or follow it. Instead, I rotate around the window. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

You rotate around the window because the camera locks on to the transparent texture. What I do is lock on, rotate around the window until I see it from the outside, then either pull back until the desired object is in view, or lock on to something else on the outside and rotate til I see what i really wanted to look at. If that made any sense. :p

Face away from the object, and then Alt-mouse to back your zoom away until your camera is outside the house, then click on something outside.

I frequently use alt and the arrow keys to move my camera. It does not suffer some of the problems that alt-mouse does.

Disable camera constraints. Use your camera controls to turn your camera side-on to the object, then pan right across till your cam is in front of the object you want.

If you disable camera constraints, you can pan the full length and breadth of the sim and any other sim it shares a full border with.

And zoom underground. One of the most common reasons to disable it.

You can also use the camera control buttons to pan up or sideways out of the building first to get rid of the transparant texture in the line between your viewpoint and your target.
