SL Hates Me More

I think that there is a common joke among avs when something goes wrong and in times of high lag that 'SL hates me.' Well SL hates me more, and here are my reasons for believing this.

I have lost more than 4000 items in sl. I have been orb/cloud/whatever for nearly two (2) hours. I have been ejected and required to leave sims for not being dressed, when my screen shows me fully clothed. I have been stuck in log in for more than 10 min and still not made it. I am constantly thrown to the edge of sims when i walk, sit, stand, fly, turn, etc. I have crashed and upon relog found myself, not by request, in a diff sim. When I am busy things don't end up in my trash to be easily found and retrieved, and I still get group notices popping up. When I crash (it's not an if, happens at least once daily), any inventory offers, IM, etc. disappear never to be found again; I have lost many MM prizes this way.

AND

I have been told, indirectly, by SL that because i have a basic account they don't care! (e.g. they will no handle my support tickets)


I made a joke once (in a slightly BDSM context) that SL is my master and has put me on restriction, but if that is true, SL is the worst master in the history of it's own existence.

ummm....yeah. Help! Help! Help! or at least let me know that you are laughing at me; I wanna pretend to laugh with you.

Does anyone else have issues like this? Does anyone have a solution, after clearing relogging, cache, reinstalling, removing all cookies and temp files, and resetting my network ID? FYI - My computer is nearing the year old mark, and is, as such admittedly old (LOL) but not ancient. I have 3GB of RAMM and a 32-bit operating system.

When this happens try replacing items of clothing. Usually things that modify your avatar shape, like a hair-base or a shoe-base. You might need to wear a different shape as well.

Get yourself a Mac GF. Dump that zero and get yourself a hero.

Or, if all else fails, Advanced-Character-Character Tests-Test Female/Male will sort of reboot your avatar and give you a default newbie one again, at which point you can put back your old shape, skin and so on.

What will probably help is a full clean reinstall with trip to aditi grid to fetch inventory.

The trip to aditi can be a factor in the clean reinstall. However I have heard others expressing the same issues as you are experiencing.

One more possibility is to use an alternative viewer such as snowglobe or emerald. If you use emerald I hear you may never go back to the sl viewer rofl.

These two could be related. If your currently worn shape or skin is one of the missing items, you'll never rez.



This is likely related to the speed of your internet/network connection. My broadband is really crappy (less than 2mb most of the time) and I experience this a lot. Also I get the "rubber-banding" effect, where I find myself walking off to the horizon, and then suddenly spring back to where I was before. Sometimes my connection goes out completely and it all just freezes; not really a crash, but I have to quit out and re-log to be able to move again. You're more likely to have this sort of problem if you're on wireless or mobile internet.



I would start with a hardware upgrade, to be honest. And check that your internet connection is running fast enough and stable enough (it might be running ok overall but having drop-outs).

People sometimes find that some of the alternative clients are less prone to crashing than the normal SL one. Your computer might struggle with Emerald, but Cool Viewer might be a good one to try. I've heard good things about that one for lower-powered computers.

Sadly the inventory loss is a server-side issue and there isn't anything you can do about it. LL won't do anything about it either, even for paid users (as far as I know they're not even capable of doing anything about it). My best suggestion is if you lost something expensive that you purchased recently, try asking the store owner for a replacement. Most creators are sympathetic to victims of inventory loss.

Whenever I find myself as a cloud for a prolonged period, this doesn't work for me. I always get the error message that I cannot do that "until [my] shape and clothing have loaded".

hmm, are you trying to go into edit appearance? I've seen it trying to do that, but no just switching them out. I haven't had to do it but a couple times though, maybe there are different issues with the same symptom. .. .. surprise.

That's possible. For me, when that happens, the "Appearance" option is greyed out, and even though my inventory is fully loaded up, it doesn't show me wearing anything at all, not even a shape or skin. It is when I attempt to "put something on" is when I get that message.

Thankfully, it's not something that happens often, though it does seem to be happening more often of late, coincident with all the other grid misbehaviors lately. The last time it happened, it was when the sim I was on crashed and reloaded in an unstable state.

Okay, I'm thinking you probably have tried every iteration of this, but just in case.

When you try to you try each item and receive the same error. I'm guessing here so I might sound like a muffin head, but if it won't load your shape because the shoe-base or hair-base.. then maybe you get the error for shape but it would let you change the shoe or hair bases. Just something to try if you haven't.

If so, then I would go Innula's suggestion and go into Character Tests and see if you can force it that way.

Sorry if I'm rehashing stuff you tried and know doesn't work.
