Copying a huge build to a different sim

Hi

I have made a huge build that is 390 metres tall and 60 metres wide. It is a planetarium I have made and I have been asked to display it in the air above a commercial sim.

I was wondering what would be the easiest way to make a copy of it to move it there.

I have found when I try to link it all as "coalesced" it wont let me because it is just too high, I would really like to be able to just take a whole copy in one piece as coalesced to save some of the phantom prims which are part of the build, I can do this with smaller objects usually.

Also there are no copy objects inside the build ( sound effects I bought ), I know I will probably have to take all the no copy objects out before I can make a copy or is there a workaround in the viewer that just ignores them and allows me to only copy my full perm build without having to remove them all first ? I intend to rebuy the sound effects for the new location.

I remember Rezzable where talking about making available a tool that can do this but seen there was a lot of discussion because it could copy other peoples objects too.

I only wish to copy my own build but it seems like a problem considering the size and height factor of it.

Anyone moved huge builds before and advise on the quickest and easiest way to do it?

Rez-Foo.

Search for "Crystalshard Foo" - Check her picks - go to her store "Script-Foo", and get a Rez-Foo.

It will allow you to package up any build -even a sim wide build of any size-. You can then move the build and re-rez it anywhere you want.

What you do is place the rez-foo package scripts into every "linkset" parent prim. Then you pickup all the linksets/prims and put them in the rez-foo box/package. Afterwards, you just click the rez-foo box/package and choose 'rez' and your entire build will rez where ever you are.

The safest and easiest way would be to first remove the no-copy parts, and then, when you are CERTAIN that everything is copyable, use either Builder's Buddy (which is free) or Rez-Foo (Has a cost, but has more features) to pack a copy of the entire build into a rezzer box. Then you can take the rezzer to the new sim, place it at the height you want to rez the build, and re-create it perfectly.

Note that is you try to use a rezzer to pack something that includes no-copy parts, it can be done, but ONLY ONCE. You end up packing the no-copy parts of the original build into the rezzer, removing those no-copy linksets from the original build, and the very first time you rez it, the linksets that are no-copy are removed from the rez box, because they are now rezzed in-world at the new location.

Rezzers are a poor choice for moving no-copy content, and so are coallesced groups taken into inventory. Always take the no-copy items seperately.

It should also be possible to just pick up the entire build as a coallesced object, as long as it does not exceed 4000 prims. Again, remove the no-copy parts first, so you don't have to remove the original build to get a complete copy to your inventory. You will probably need to increase your draw distance in your preference settings, and disable camera constraints in the advanced menu, to be able to highlight the whole build. You will also probably need to fly around and through the build area to make sure you highlight all the smaller loose parts that may not be visible from a distance at any single point of reference. But as long as the whole build is less than 4000 prims, anything that fits in a single sim should be possible to pick up or take copy as a single coallesced item in inventory.

The caveat in any of the above cases is that when you rez the build on someone else's parcel, you need to make sure the place you try to rez it does not result in the build hanging over the sim edges, or hanging over into other people's parcels, where you might not have rez rights, or where autoreturn might send pieces back. If the "commercial sim" is a single sim-wide parcel, your main concern would be to ensure it doesn't overhang the sim edges.

Make sure you don't include any Linden plants. If you try to rez a coallesced build that includes Linden plants, you can't do it if you don't have parcel access rights to rez plants.

It's easier just to use Rez Faux or Rez Foo.

Have Linden Lab changed that from 1000 now?

Yes. I raised a JIRA to complain at the 1000-prim limit that they silently slipped in with a server update, and many other large-scale builders screamed at limit as well. In response, LL polled service providers and other content providers about what they actually did in terms of large-scale builds, and then relented and changed the limit to 4000 prims.

I've never used it for anything huge, but for the things I have used it on (just testing it out, really) it worked perfectly.

That would be useful. I've needed it many times. If one hasn't got many no-copy things in the build it could be useful to lock them, then select "Only Moveable Objects." Of course, if you have a lot - well, it's a PITA any way you do it, at the moment.

Meerkat has been iffy on complex builds recently. Either it seens to run afoul of the "Grey goo fence" when re-rezzing the build, or it loses focus while trying to collect the build info, and hangs. Either way, it was very difficult for a client of mine recently to capture and re-rez a 2000 prim, roughly 40M x 70 M x 30 M high building that I created for him. He finally managed it, but packing it with either Rez Foo or Builder's Buddy would have been faster.

Agreed, just spent the last 3 days playing with this feature in Meerkat and it has worked perfectly every time. Even the 500+ prim mansion I made a while back worked fine. I would suggest any issues with it would be more due to the time you're trying to use it, or the sim you're on, not WHAT you're copying so much.

Does it ignore the no copy prims in the build when copying Dana ?

Actually I can't answer that one.. All I've used it on has been stuff I've made myself so my perms on that would naturally be full. I would assume it follows the permissions that apply to the current owner, unless you are the creator... and no, I doubt it would allow you to backup something you don't have copy perms on. The option stays greyed out if you don't have rights.
