No Friends Online....but they are!

Ok logged on to see non of my friends are online...i checked in the groups and they are...i send them an IM and BINGO "friends online" and it updates....anyone else get this?

Yes.. Partically with one of my friends.. It just means they've unchecked the option to allow you to see them online.

It's like a tempoary mute, except that you can still message them and they can see you online. Until they uncheck it.. It's rude =x Easier to just say 'Hey, busy now.. talk later!'

Friends online cycles between working and b0rked - even when it seems to be working, I never trust it completely.

TodayI checked the site today, saw two friends on. Checked later, no one. At that point, I logged in and both were online... But I've had friends crash and waited 1/2 hour for them to log back on, finally gave up and sent an offline IM to let them know I'd waited only to find they were online and were waiting for ME to relog.

And if your friends have unchecked the permission to see them online, I wouldn't take it personally, and I don't think it's necessarily rude. Sometimes people need to be online briefly for whatever reason and would rather not have to explain themselves to each and every one of their friends one at a time.

I’ve logged in on one account to see that an alt account I just logged off was still showing as online in my Friends list. I would agree that the Friends list is just not to be trusted to accurately tell you who’s on and who isn’t.

I run unchecked a lot, If I turn all my contacts on I find myself in IM for the next 60-90 minutes with out fail. I never get work done then.

Partially its my fault as my friend list is 100 strong it seems. but between vendors, dancers, escorts, bizz contact,s and horny guys looking to "get sum" its a never ending list of Ims.

Add in customer im for retints and resizing and I can spend 2 hours answering every single Im I recieve thru till its end goodbye.

I love all my dancers and friends, I just need to work too. POP didnt happen all by itself!

It could be that they have "see me online" checked, but it sounds like it's just normal friends list borkiness if he IM's them and all of a sudden they show as on. Maybe they are just quickly checking the box before they reply, but who knows. Friends online is one of the screwier parts of SL. It never seems to work quite right. Either that or I'm friends with a lot of hippopotami.

I have to disagree about checking the box being rude, though. I don't see it as rude at all. Sometimes you have stuff going and you just need a little time to sort through everything. Sometimes you just want to be alone for a little while - or alone with someone for a little while. Is it really rude to just appear offline instead of having to field a dozen IM's from people? I don't find it rude at all, but I guess, as an open notice to everyone on my friends list, I'm sorry if I offended any of you.

Ditto. I tell my friends that if I appear offline, Im either involved in a project or Im involved with someone inworld privately, and no one finds it rude.

... or, *gasp* I may actually BE offline! Miracles do happen
