I've never been bothered by the Lindens opening and closing the comments on their blogs. Mostly because I felt the comments they receive are always off topic and are extremely childish. Then I read the following article from the MSNBC website regarding the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) starting a blog and I realized what the problem is. I don't see the Lindens blog as a true blog at all. What they currently call a blog is actually a systems update page, at least IMO. I'd like to see it stay that way and shut down the comments field for good. After that they can learn a thing or two from this blog created by TSA. Create something like this for customer information and feedback. If something like this were put into place people would feel a lot more like they are being heard. Hey LL, if the US government can actually do something better than you can, it's really time to take a serious look at yourself. If you post a thread and no Linden reads it, does Phillip make a sound?
Great idea, Bradley. And you are right, if it's really a blog then ad farms are really for advertising.

Trust me I'm under no illusion that a Linden will ever read this. But there's always that hope that one day one of them will choose not to play WoW during their lunch hour and says "Jeepers, I don't remember this section of the website. What's over here."

There is a difference between a noticeboard and a blog - and the LL one seems to be trying to be both. I think it work out better if the two functions were separated.

They're too busy reading and cataloging our chat logs. They know all they need to know about.......the "residents.' "The Council for Furry Relations," knows all.

The Lindenz walk among you... I have *no* doubt that they read this stuff.
They are simply too smart to reply. Think about it. I suspect this forum is left to drift a bit based upon this: "kinda positive, possibly attracting residents" - vs - "driving residents away screaming" Right now it's kinda positive, all things considered. I remember when it wasn't. It is about as vicious as granny's bridge game right now in here - sure, someone's toy poodle may snap, but nobody cares. As long as it stays this way, I think everything's fine.

when you read teh 150 or so replies each of the the blogs get and if you assumed that is the way most of the residents felt you could only assume everyone who uses sl is a complete and total idiot.
good thing we know thats not true, by virtue of knowing our fellow residents. It is kinda wierd tho how the most ignorant people seem to be the most vocal in the forums and blog postings

When Qie and I discussed the structure of the forums with the Lindens, they actually requested a Blog Discussion section be added to the forums. (Incidently, discussions about the forums are still ongoing.)
My private thought was that they might be thinking of moving *all* comments off the "Blog" and into such a forum. But that's just me. .

From: Brenda Connolly Brilliant! They are! And even worse, because the discussion would be in the forums, they are even LESS likely to respond!

From: Darien Caldwell Sounds like the Town Hall Feedback Forum. *looks into it, noting a tumbleweed float by silently* I was a regular at the Town Hall Forums, years ago before they shut them down for being too mean. Have they brought them back up or is it still the same lame blog setup they implemented?
