Howdy all. My partner and I purchased a 4096 sqm parcel on a slightly used sim. The estate owners have been awesome but I think we're all at a loss about a group-related issue. We have basic accounts.
The land was originally purchased in my partner's name. We split the initial purchase price and tier and share the monthly tier fee. For building purposes, I created a private group and deeded the land to this group. However, we've been adding our own objects in separate names and have been planning to assign the respective objects to the group.
Something happened in which the parcel is still group-owned but the group no longer displays in the "about land" window; just a bunch of question marks under the group name.
In addition, if an object is group owned, the question marks display there too and we're unable to edit these groups, i.e. I can't apply a window tint script to the windows on our house.
Neither of us have the rights any more to set the owner back to one of us, nor do the estate owners.
Does anyone know if it's possible to revert ownership back to one of us and allow full rights of the other so that only the two of us make work with the land and all objects?
It's very messy right now.
TYVM, in advance, for any insight anyone might offer.
Regards, Kory

It may not be as scary as it looks. The "???" group name (in my experience) just means that SL is being slow to the point of giving up while trying to figure out what the group name really is... and if you click the info button it will usually find the right group. So, I don't think your group is any more broken than most groups most of the time.
On the other hand, stuff that's *deeded* to group (objects, not land) are almost always a Very Bad Idea. That said, you might be able to set them to also be Shared with group, which should make it possible to modify them *iff* the "next owner permissions" for the objects included the ability to modify. The problem here is that deeding an object to group is, indeed, giving it a next owner, so those permissions apply.

Part of the issue is that the estate may not have RESELL land or enabled.
I have similar issues because of this. The estate owners must either abandon the land and sell it back to you for zero linden, or enable the RESELL land option under the estate tools temporarily for you to take care of the transaction. You may also need to have the PARCEL SPLIT option enabled as well if you need to divide or join your lands again.
Good Luck!!

Another tip- you might in future prefer to use the land controls to control building - About Land/Objects - and set "create objects" to the group. That way "all residents" becomes unticked for building rights, and you do not have to worry about deeding objects (particularly no transfer" permed objects 9for next owner), which you could risk losing).

TYVM for y'all's replies. I really appreciate it. Qie, unfortunately, whenever I click the "info" button, the proper group comes up but the ???'s still remain. It looks like I could work w/ the estate owner to abandon or sell the land and buy it back for $0, if that's an idea. In fact, after talking w/ my partner, I've sold the land back to myself for $0, along w/ the objects, and am curious to hear about how long that transaction might take. Just trying to get this right. TY again!

This happened on my mainland land - it took a restart of the SIM to clear it up.

This is a known bug, and generally only affects the display of the group name. You can read more about and vote to have it fixed on the JIRA site: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-882I've had it on my mainland sim for a couple months or more now. So far it hasn't caused any problems, other than forcing people to click through to see the actual group name. It sometimes goes back to normal after a sim restart, but it rarely stays fixed for more than a day.

As Ava Ava Hot like Lava says, this is merely a bug, it will clear.
