Don't you have to be LL to sell land in the auctions? How can you have land to sell if you don't have a premium account?

Maybe Deep is talking about selling a private island through the auctions?

I'm confused too... how did you buy land in order to sell it if you're not premium?

It'd have to be a private island that Deep's talking about.. you don't have to be premium to have one of them. But I thought only LL did the whole auction thing?

You can't sell land via the auction page yet. Perhaps someday. And the only way to sell mainland is to be a premium member. Estates can be transferred without being premium.

Thx all, and yes it is on a private Sim for those wondering. Guess I'll go back to the grind of listing it. Funny thing is the land at auctions sells for up too 2x what i am asking :P and they have to be premium...

Land on the auction system is mainland. The people who buy that (a) actually own it (in the SL sense), as opposed to renting from an estate owner, and (b) only pay $195/mo tier per sim, as opposed to the $295/mo per sim that estate owners pay.

So people pay more money up front because it costs less on an ongoing basis, and they have secured rights to it as long as they pay.

The land at auction is also going for more because it's much smaller parcels of mainland than a full region...

If you do nothing, it will automatically revert back to LL, and you get nothing in return. LL will later auction if off to users.

You can also abandon the land to LL, with the same result.

The best choice is to sell it to another user yourself before your premium membership runs out, so you get some L$ in exchange for it.

Do you get any warning? Grace period?

Good time to repeat this: NEVER ABANDON LAND!! If you want to sell it instantly, check the lowest price per meter when you look at mainland on the first Land search page. Then set yours to one tenth of a meter lower. So if the base is L$6.2 per meter, set yours for L$6.1. It will sell within an hour.

I don't think it's actually possible to not renew your premium though: you need to either cancel (won't go through as long as you own land), or go delinquent.

At that point LL would suspend your account after 14 days, seize the land after 30 days and put the parcel up for US$ auction. The proceeds will be used to pay your premium and/or tier plus a $100 fee (or whatever is left if it's less than $100). Whatever (if anything) is left after all that is credited to your account.

That's how I read the policy anyway :o.

Deep's only selling a leased parcel.

EDIT: Although I'm amazed at how many people ARE selling islands these days.

The big question is: are people buying? If so, for how much?

I'm telling you, folks, it's that monthly tier. $295? A month? For virtual land? How many people can make enough $L in-world a month to cover that?

Or downgrade account to Basic from Premium.

another sort of on topic...

If you buy an island off someone for $US dollars .............do you do it through an Inworld Linden Liason????
You pay Linden Labs then they forward the money to seller, then LL sets ownership to buyer???

Keeping my hopes up on this one... I've got a neighbor who left the game around late June, but didn't dispose of his land. As of a few weeks ago (don't remember exactly when) he's dropped out of search. I own land on three sides of his parcel, so obviously I'm anxious to know when it goes to auction. :)

That's a sore point with a lot of people: LL isn't involved in the sale, only in the transfer of ownership.

If I sell you a private sim and you pay me the money through PayPal and everything is on the level then I send an email off to concierge stating that I want to transfer ownership to you and you send off an email stating that you want to take ownership and LL sorts everything out (after payment of the transfer fee).

If I instead accept your money and never send that email to concierge you're out your money without a sim to show for it and LL will - usually - not get involved because the sale was a resident-to-resident transaction that didn't involve them.

Not that long ago one scammer took advantage of the whole process and managed to sell the same sim to 4 different people before anyone realized something was wrong.

Auctions used to be (still are now?) a manual process apparantly: some poor Linden had to make a list of all abandonned/reclaimed parcels and then list them for auction one at a time :p.

I'm not sure if Guy Linden is still responsible for the mainland? If you can manage 7am on Friday, Jack Linden has his office hour then and he has mainland listed as topic. I'd definitely nudge someone though or you could be waiting for a long time and then they'd sell it the moment you stop paying attention :p.

Unfortunately in my case, the land hasn't reverted to LL yet. This didn't surprise me for the first few months, because I assumed they just had a long-term premium membership and some USD balance (it's a 1024, so still requires monthly tier payments). The owner disappeared from search a few weeks ago, I think 4-5.

So my current issue is making sure I know when the land reverts to LL, so I can then go through all the steps to get it auctioned. Or sold straight to me if possible. I don't think they will do this for anything above a 512, but I own the land on three sides, and should have the land on the fourth side soon, so maybe they'll cut me a break. I promise to pay handsomely! :D
