I really appreciate all the good answers I have been given. I other games I've played that was always and issue.
Two questions.
1. I think I know the answer but will ask to make sure I don't Fubar my account. To create an alt do I just run second life but instead of entering my Main Avatars name and password I hit create account?
2. If I do make an alt it will be adult verified but non premium (initially). Can non premium avatars upgrade themselves and skins the same? And someone had mentioned that they could pass money and items to an alt. How is this done?
Thanks again.

From: someone 1. I think I know the answer but will ask to make sure I don't Fubar my account. To create an alt do I just run second life but instead of entering my Main Avatars name and password I hit create account? This is correct. Or log out from the secondlife website, and you'll see a "Join Now!" button there. You can use multiple accounts from a single installed copy of SL. It keeps the critical preference files seperate for each avatar you attempt to log in as. (Though some preference values are shared by all accounts, like the color for your "effects".) From: someone 2. If I do make an alt it will be adult verified but non premium (initially). Can non premium avatars upgrade themselves and skins the same? And someone had mentioned that they could pass money and items to an alt. How is this done? Yes. A non-premium account can do everything a Premium account can, except for those benefits explicitly reserved for Premium accounts, such as owning a Mainland parcel and being able to open a support ticket with LL for any topic other than the limited range allowed for Basic accounts. No limits on skins you can use or merchandise you can buy, once adult content approved. Passing money from one account to another is simple. Log on as the account that has money. Search for the other account, or bring them up from your Friends list. (It's more convenient if you offer friendship to all your alts). In their Profile there is a "Pay" button that you can use to send them L$. There is also a place in the profile to drop inventory items, so you can send them any transferrable items. For items that are both copyable and transferrable, they would get a copy and you keep your copy. For items that are transferrable but no-copy, they get the item and you lose it. Item transfers have to be accepted by the other account when you next log on as that account.

1) Yes. It'll redirect you to the account creation page.
2) No. You have to jump through the hoops for each account you hold.

You could do that, or you could just go through the same process you used to signup originally. You might even start with http://slnamewatch.com/ to find the last name you want. The term "alt" can be confusing. As far as the SL world is concerned, they're just totally independent, totally separate accounts. The main connection between them is if the email address is the same, and that's mostly used just to limit the number of accounts you create on a given day, though it's also used by LL when they suspend or ban an account, in order to suspend/ban the alts. From: someone 2. If I do make an alt it will be adult verified but non premium (initially). Can non premium avatars upgrade themselves and skins the same? Since they're totally independent in-world, it won't be adult verified nor premium. You have to do all of that again for each account. None of the items in the first account's inventory will be in the new account's inventory, other than the shared library that everyone has. You can pass money to your alt the same way you give it to any other avatar. Just open the profile and use the Pay button. Similarly, you can pass inventory items between them using the profile, as long as the permissions on the item permit transfer. You'll probably want to setup friendship between all your accounts. I also suggest using distinctive profile pictures, which makes it less likely you'll accidentally transfer something to the wrong account. There are other ways of transferring either L$ or inventory items, but I prefer this one as it's least likely to result in accidentally transferring something to the wrong account.

I strongly recommend using slnamewatch for the alts. Make sure you get them on names you like - chances are one of them will end up being your main once you've done that.
Make sure to friend all your alts, and I also suggest creating a private group and putting all your avatars into it.
I often pass things between my alts simply by making group notices. Good for landmarks to freebies and MM boards, and so on. Also lets me be aware of how long its been since I used an alt, if I'm thinking of deleting one, and generally helps with tracking and land management.

What is "slnamewatch" ? and on another tack, why are Freebies "no transfere" ? It would make it a lot easier to pass things to an Alt.

http://slnamewatch.com/- Go there and find out which servers and when are allowing you to register what surnames. That's how I got my hands on Catnap and for one alt, Gearz. I make my own freebies no-transfer so I can track how often people buy them. That said, my height meter if full permissions because it fixes a MAJOR bug in 99.9% of all existing height meters, so I wanted it to spread out fast - I made it full perms and in the notecard -asked- people to give it away.

From: Del Wellman why are Freebies "no transfere" ? It would make it a lot easier to pass things to an Alt. I would imagine many freebies (esp. those picked up in specific stores) are no transfer to ensure that the store gets more exposure. if someone picks up a dozen freebies to pass it on to newbies, that is a nice thing to do, but the recepiant may never think to stop by the store it came from later. Also I guess it stops people from selling off stuff that is originally free.

A lot of freebies are full perm (copy/mod/xfer).
But a lot of them aren't, for the reasons Darion mentions, and also to avoid having one's creations modified and changed to something entirely different. (The problem with that is that the original creator gets service IMs for things they didn't really make. Or it gets turned into a griefing device, and the original creator gets blamed at first.)
I give out some full-perm freebies, and I suffer the consequences. The good news is that this problem is rare enough that it it usually only happens for the most popular freebies.
