Hello,

Can anyone recommend an 'infohub' that I can use as a home landmark for when I login to SL, which also has 'dressing rooms' where I can dress & undress without pervs drooloing all over me ?

Thanks

You don't need to get undressed to change clothes but grab yourself a free flight feather and go high if you really feel the need.

you will find many ocean areas will allow you to rez stuff long enough to unpack them. Few people walk into the ocean, so you can be undisturbed.

Search for the sim Leif, and find an empty house to change in. You can set home there, but please don't set home inside one of the houses.

Search for The Forum Cartel group, join it and then go the Hangout (I think you can get there from the land tab in the group, but if not you can check my Picks and TP there that way). In the side room is a teleporter up to a private dressing area with a pose stand. As long as you are a member of the group, you can set your home to that location -- I actually set mine to the grassy area outside so that I did not startle anyone that might be in the building changing clothes. Oh - and to actually use the teleporter at the Hangout to get up there, you need to have the group active at the time.

As you will learn though, one of the easiest and safest ways to get dressed is to find the folder with the outfit you want to wear and right click it and select "add to outfit" and then remove any remaining items from the previous outfit.

WRONG! I spend endless hours wandering around under the ocean looking for naked noobs to perv upon. I'll make sure I keep an eye out for Flutterby in future.

Hi Flutterby! Even if an infohub has dressing rooms (and I seem to remember a swamp one that does), it wouldn't stop anyone from moving their camera inside and watching. Your best bet is to find a less crowded place that has private areas. I know some stores do, and of course the Hangout does, and Annabelle has been very kind. I believe NCI (New Citizen's Inc) also has private dressing areas. Personally, as a newbie I used to just pick an empty mainland sim and go there :)

New residents have more need for privacy than the rest of us ... they need to learn how to use the appearance sliders (best done nude), they need to try on skins and develop their own tastes in them, they need to try on oodles of clothes, they need to learn how to edit hair and flexi skirts.

One way to do this is to go to anyplace with the word "sandbox" in its name (in search), and rez your own dressing room. I just sent you one that you can use if you like. It's only 4 (5?) prims, has a door and a posing stand, and at 10m square lots of room for your camera. To move it to any height you want, say 427 meters in the air, et on the pose stand and type "move 427" into chat. Here's a pic, it's not pretty but it works:

Note: if you stay off the pose stand for over half an hour straight, it will disappear. It's a dressing room, not an apartment :)

If you're changing clothes and not adjusting your shape, though you can do that in underwear (Just find an empty spot well away from the info-hub), you can do it on the fly anywhere. The trick is to remember to work from the inside out. Change the underwear first and then the shirt and pants. Since you are replacing items, you always stay clothed. You can detatch prim items or take off pants or shoes last if you are going from full clothes to a bathingsuit.

If you are worrying about a clothing malfunction, walk a bit away from the crowd to change and then walk back.

When I was new I used to hide behind a rock to change clothes and work on my shape. No matter what they tell you it is best to be naked or, at least wearing only a bra and panties, before you do any serious work on your avatar shape.

Before I had my own place, I used to use the dressing rooms at NCI. The Shelter also had a dressing room/rest room, but that was well over a year ago. I don't think I've been in the ones at the Forum Cartel Hangout, but I feel comfortable seconding that recommendation.

And... I think Alady Island had some ladies' dressing rooms, but they were communal with separate stalls, so I cant say whether they'd meet your need for privacy. I also can't say whether they are still there.

I cannot remember who recommended it (Chris Norse, I think?) but if you use the "high in the sky over a water sim or sandbox" technique, you could always rez a 10m box, hollow it, and attach it to your avatar. If you crash and relog in the middle of a welcome area naked, you're covered!

You mean you should hide when you're changing clothes?

The freebie flight feather and 4000 meters will usually get you as much privacy as can be obtained in SL. But, if you are using the 1.19.xx viewer make that 700 meters if you want to put on prim clothing items. Otherwise 4000 is good. :)

I've actually been thinking of renting out "dressing rooms". 20 prims, just enough to rez a few boxes, but not enough to furnish, for 50L per week. IM if interested.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Remember you dont' have to remove clothing to change your clothes. Just pick the new stuff you want to wear instead. I used to think I had to click and remove all clothing before dressing, needless to say I was always in search of a tree or wall to hide behind...

Then someone told me just pick and 'wear' from inventory. Lol. No it wasn't obvious to me otherwise. :P

Also to figure out what you are still wearing that you don't want to keep wearing type WORN in inventory and it will show u everything u have on.

The cartoon nudity isn't nearly as embarassing as rezzing a box on your head.

The right underwear can do wonders for the mood sometimes.
;)

Besides, removing it gives the guy something to concentrate on for a bit.

Underwear can screw up tattoos. Well that's my excuse for not wearing any.

Oh well, if you're *just* wearing lingerie, that's different. ;)
