Backing up my Inventory.... and is it possible? Apologies in advance if this 'ticks people off' and also without wanting to go through pages (the search listed 200!) of Inventory queries I thought I'd ask this question, as no doubt others will do as well. I'm not being lazy here.. it's just that there are so many pages listing 'Inventory' and some relate mainly to 'Huddles' and not the Inventory as a "hole" as no doubt that's what will be left if you do lose it.. (Do excuse the bad pun) A hole in your bank account from all the hard earned wonga you spent on paying for items in SL and also a hole in your Linden account from the loss of $L you were hoping for if you were selling items. This would be the last thing you want I should think. Is it at all possible for you to back-up your inventory, and if so how do you do it? Also, as no doubt you all have a small fortune invested in your own inventories, someone out there may know how to do this and not lose all the items you spent good money on. If you can't back up your inventories how do you go about recovering all the items you had stored in your inventory? Or will they 'magically' reappear after a given time, something along the lines of the 'Ghost Prims' problem and reappear after a Sim reset? Once again apologies for what may, no doubt, be a 'repeat Q'.

Not really. If you have copyable items, you can store copies in storage prims rezzed out of your inventory, but sometimes things will disappear from there as well.
Clearing cache and relogging multiple times, or manually deleting the SL cache folder altogether, will sometimes cause 'missing' inventory to reappear as the list is rebuilt from the asset server. Sometimes things will also reappear for no apparent reason months later.

The best protection is not buying items that are no copy. These items will not leave your inventory when you try to rez them, even if the server is being loopy. You can lose inventory on no copy items when the server is being loopy. Sometimes they may pop up back in your inventory at some stage, sometimes in your lost and found folder, and sometimes elsewhere .. and sometimes not at all.

As suggested, create a box, copy inventory to it *if* it's a copy item.
I keep all the vendor boxes and stick those inside storage prims that I leave at my house as i'm led to believe that items in world are safer than in inventory.
Don't even talk to me about Huddles right now...in about 1.5 hours, i'll be at war with LL live chat support (again).

From: Victorria Paine You can lose inventory on no copy items when the server is being loopy. That's almost entirely preventable though just by making sure that the sim you're trying to rez it on isn't having issues (pending downloads/uploads, etc). For anything else NC/T vs C/NT doesn't really make a difference: * every copy of a C/NT item is just a reference back to the original; having 10,000 copies of something in inventory is just 1 actual asset referenced 10,000 times (rezzing, modifying and taking back isn't a copy in this context, it's a new asset) * delivery problems aren't related to the permissions on the item (scripted delivery problems or the "buy it, shows in inventory, tp/relog and it's gone" which is due to sim issues) * the inventory gremlins don't discriminate and eat both copy and no copy inventory From: Sassy Romano I keep all the vendor boxes and stick those inside storage prims that I leave at my house as i'm led to believe that items in world are safer than in inventory. Items rezzed in-world exist on the sim rather than the asset server so they are safer from a broken garbage collector, but that only relates to the prim that's rezzed, what's inside the prim as inventory are assets again. Also, if you build something and keep multiple copies of it, you're just referencing a single asset multiple times. You don't really have multiple copies. You'd have to rez it, modify it (not sure to what extent though), then take it back to have an actual second copy.

Backing up my Inventory...

OK. I'd like to say thanks for all of your help... loads of advice there too... As this makes another thread about inventories... but at least it is clear and consise though. This one sounds a real good one too. How do you transfer it back to your inventory though?
