I want to "film" via camtasia (or similar capture programme) some action here on SL, such as people flying, dancing or shopping, and then upload it and show it to student avatars via a tv or projector here on SL. Is that possible, and if so, how?

Hiya and welcome
![]() Yes it's possible to do that - you'll get way better answers in the technical Forums tho ... search for machinima too. Good luck! _____________________

Haven't done it myself, but it's certainly possible, though perhaps not simple. The capturing of the video is easy enough--you could just do File : Start/Stop Movie to Disk. But then you'd have to serve a stream of that video in a format SL understands, and use it as "parcel media" for an in-world "TV." The only hard part about that is getting a stream server--maybe somebody knows an inexpensive way to do that. A wiki article, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/How_To_Show_Video_in_SL, might be helpful.

Is that possible, and if so, how? This can be done for sure. First, record your "scene" as an AVI file using the method described by the poster above. Then convert the AVI to a MOV file and host it on some websapce that allows video streaming from the URL. Stick the URL into the TV or in land options for video, and away you go. Oh yeah - you then have to press the "play" button. ![]() _____________________

There's a forum on SL video matters called " Movies & Machinima" with a description of "A place to show off your movies made in and about SL, discuss machinima techniques, and more!"
The url is /278/1.html It's in the Content Creation section of the forum list. There's bound to be tons of pertinent discussion there. _____________________
