How to Prevent Someone from Appearing in My Cottage Upon Login

Hi,

The other night a friend was with me in my cottage. She had to log-off. When she logged back in, she reappeared in my cottage. That's fine, because I wanted her to be there with me.

But what if it was another person, who I didn't want to reappear in my cottage upon login? Is there a way to prevent the person from doing this?

Thanks,
Avanti

restrict access to just you, or ban them. I can't remember if they have 15 seconds if they log into it, or if it just throws them out immediately, but either way its your best bet

Ask them to set their login to home, not to last location. Or ban them from your parcel.

If you have land controls over the parcel you can add people to the access list and remove them when they leave. When they log on again they will be outside of the barrier. If you have no land control options then you can use a security device to add guests and remove them.

My parents did that to me once when I was away at summer camp.

My parents did that to me when I was at school. I do not mean away at school, I mean I woke up in the morning, rode the bus to school, and when I got on the bus to go home, I spotted my parents in the parking lot. I do not remember if I was allowed off the bus, or if they followed the bus, but at some point I found myself in their car and they took me to another house. It was very strange. They also removed my favorite tree while I was away visiting grandmother for the summer. That happened later.

easiest, least restrictive solution: set a landing point outside the cottage edit: - for teleports.

ack, just re read.... well, banning would do it, but you cannot stop logoffs from logging back in there any other way.

Rezz a large prim at the spot that they are coming in to. :)

- big enough to totally enclose them.

Only works if they're tping in though, if they are there already on login it doesnt matter does it?

(This is in addition to what Okiphia and Raymond said)

There's a few things you can do to keep people from appearing in your "bedroom". Parcel size will affect how effective things are though.

You can set a landing point on your land that's outside of your house for instance (or a spot fartherest away from where you usually are on your land) and set teleport routing to "Landing Spot" (in About Land / Options). That'll force everyone who uses a landmark or the map to tp to your land (as the owner of the land or owner of the group you're *usually* exempt from the landing point, but it will glitch as well) to appear on the landing spot. Offering tp's (or tp'ing home) will still work as it does now.

Setting a landing point will not stop someone from reappearing in the same spot where they logged off though, although "Blocked" will (they'll simply log back in on a neighbouring parcel they can access). Downside is that it will also prevent you from offering a tp to someone while that's turned on (they'd be dumped on a neighbouring parcel as well), so it's generally not something you want to leave turned on.

However, if you're simply having a private moment with someone who's already there and don't want to ban, access restrict or use a security orb, you can set it to "Blocked" and noone will suddenly reappear (through tp or logging back on) and simply set it back to "Anywhere" or "Landing Point" when you're done.

My parents were too lazy to move. Lazy gits. I came home one day and my bedroom was the "rec room".

At least they got me a nice set of luggage.

I suspect that happens to a lot of us from time to time. I've gone to an old landmark and the area has changed from what it was, or I've crashed hard and upon relog been redirected to some place I had set for home a long time ago. What I'm saying is, be kind - it could be just an accident. Setting to group only would work well.

My bedroom became an art studio. I was still living there at the time though. Not easy to sleep leaning over an easl.

Especially when Gramps wakes early to paint one of his landscapes...

That's what he said, but . . . I did shortly thereafter start sleeping in pj's.

This has been answered rather well, but a bit scattered..

You have three basic options here, with one that relies on the other person behaving, and two that force the issue.

If you know and trust the person, just ask them to log into "Home" and not "Last Location"

or

1. Limit access, best done by banning that individual for now.. Unban them to let them back in. You may want to let them know why you are doing this, and that it is temporary.. Otherwise it could lead to some real hurt feelings.

2. Install a security system, these will remove them from your land, but they will still log in and not be ejected for a few seconds at least.. Again if you wish to see them again, I would politely tell them you are doing this and why.

I have this happen all the time, and everyone has been very good about just logging in to "Home" next time they log in..
