For the past few weeks, my minimap has shown that there are objects on my estate that are overlapping three islands and a void region. The objects show up as gray so they're not mine. About Land does not list any strangers as object owners, and none of the object owners listed have any idea what these things could be. I've cammed underground and flown as high as 4096m but not seen anything unusual. (Although these could be phantom and invisible, I guess?) Below is a picture of my minimap. Note the big horizontal rectangular blob in the center. It is clearly overlapping three of my islands and also some open ocean. It's been like this for weeks, over many rolling restarts.
How on earth can I track these prims down? (P.S. The teleport location is shown in the image if you'd like to have a look.) ![]() _____________________

It sounds like maybe one of the super large mega prims got rezzed (like 65,536 x 65,536). The people foolish enough to rez one of the monsters never actually see it appear because they are so deep inside it, and so they assume it's not there.
I'll be away for a day, but if you are still seeing the blob come Sunday, IM or PM me about it. I seem to have a real knack for finding these things. ![]() |

No ArchTx, they're still there on the map. I saw you on my radar for a few seconds. =)
Well sounds like you didn't find anything either. Really bizarre! Thanks for looking though. _____________________

That is odd, when I was there I could not see it on either the large map or the mini-map.

seems to me a map or mini-map can take up to a week to refresh... Unless the items show up in the regions objects they may simply not be there until the maps catch up. People who dont see them simply never have been to the region while they were there.

Are you looking for something along the vertical too? Megaprims will look like they cover a horizontal area, but the prim could just be rotated as well.
(You have a whole bunch of differently sized megaprims between 300m and 500m. They're the ones covering up the mini-map most likely ![]() |

Hit ctrl/alt/T at the same time and all phantom primes will turn red. That is how I found the bot farm in one of my threads. Useful for finding attachments on yourself also that are phantom/invis.
Also try clearing your cache. The maps files might be loading from there. |

You may also be seeing "Ghost prims".
Have you tried restarting the sim? ~Jessy _____________________

Okay, so a number of people flew out to investigate, and the unsatisfying consensus is that the megaprims that some skyboxes are resting upon are casting a sort of 'map shadow' that makes it look as if giant objects are overhanging the other sims. I can sit at the far edge of any of those prims and still be 10m inside Desperation North's sim border, so it's got to be some weird map anomaly. There are both 20x20 and 40x40 megaprims serving as platforms up there.
Thanks so much for your help, folks! EDIT: And to respond to some people's comments, the map has looked this way for many weeks, and the island's been through several rolling restarts, to this does appear to be a 'permanent' phenomenon. _____________________

LMAO, I see why my mini-map looked different then yours, mine is set so North is always at the top. Yours has North on the left side. Rotated we were both looking at the same prim shadows on the map.

Couldn't resist a good mystery. So, I took a little trip because that big grey spot looked familar. In fact, I have one over my own SIM and for the same reason-mega prim use in a build
![]() At 480 meters up, you have someone using 12 25x25 mega prims. In a build, on a map, these show up bigger than what you see looking at one. I used them in a SIM and we had these hug blobs everywhere a prim that large was used, even if the build was "relatively" small. So relax, it's not a problem with your server, it's just what the mega looks like from space, in the mini-map point of view so to speak ![]() ![]() |

Teehee- I admit I didn't see a difference between your screenshot and mine because of that. =) _____________________

i am having a similar problem on my parcel in joffy, someone seems to use a very large megaprim covering the minimap in at least 4 sims around , this is very anoying and disorienting for me.
very sad that there is nothing that can be done about. |

Joffy is a mainland region so raise a support ticket . I've reported a multi mainland region mega prim before and LL removed it within 3 days (Leo Linden did it) . |

One of the reasons for the map showing bigger than the 'actual' size of the megaprim is that the megaprim size often 'lies'. In fact, many megaprims are in fact much much larger in size, and have been cut to produce the size on the can. However, a cut prim will always show as the original size on maps.

support ticket didnt solve anything unfortunate, as long as the prim isnt physicaly encroaching the land there is nothing they will do.
but putting out some mega prims myself helped a little at least i can see most of the property lines now. |

I'm guessing its megaprims, i have a few i use for my floor, second floor and roof of my skybox. well within my property limits but the way they are made some show up bigger on the minimap and hang over the edge of my property.
did you try view transparent when you were flying around? |

IIRC the mini map reports larger sizes for everything based on the bounding box of an item including your own if they're highlighted.

are these boundry boxes a problem with TOS or messing with other peoples land??do they mess with sim performance???
i'm just curious because i always use my mini map to make sure they don't cross over the land i am working on.. is it just a mini map thing or are there bigger issues that happen with the part unseen out of mini map? _____________________

I think Kitty nailed it, back on the first page: the minimap shows the maximum dimension of a prim regardless of its orientation. I suspect Rock is also correct that it doesn't reflect how cut and dimpled down the prim is. By applying some nanoprim technique to a megaprim, one could make a very small bit of stuff that appeared to cover several sims on the minimap.
I've been using some megaprims lately in a sky build, and managed to shadow much of the minimap for this and a neighboring sim. ![]() (FWIW, these are right at a sim boundary, but not overlapping. I've noticed no degradation in sim performance on either side, and subjectively better client performance than I'd expect with a comparable volume of normal sized prims.) |

One thing I have found to - the waves. Some are built with older style megas.

all prims are rendered on the minimap, as a square. a square with the prim's largest X or Y dimension.
so a 5x3x2 prim, will show up as a 5x5 square. With "normal" prims, this shortcut works fine, because the prims are shown so small on the minimap, who would notice? The problem with megaprims is that they can have some pretty long dimensions. a 32x64x1, for example, will show on the minimap as a 64x64 square. So if you have someone using a 100x2x20 prim, as an example, it's going to show up as 100x100 on the minimap. And a 100x50x1.. is going to look like a 100x100x100 prim, even if you rotate it so it's standing on edge. A 1x1x100 only shows up as a 1x1 on the map, even if you rotate it so the long end is sideways (this is why I converted from the 32x64 floors in my skybox, to using 2 32x32's.. I didn't want to deal with confused neighbors who would point at the minimap complaining that my prims were on their land, when they clearly weren't.) Put simply, the minimap code totally sucks. _____________________
