Poseball Alternatives

I've been working on a range of easychairs recently, and wondered what the alternatives to poseballs are. I tried changing a poseball into a sculptie then into a seat cushion, textured it to match the other cushions and planted the animation in the cushion/poseball. It worked perfectly till I discovered the first name on the creators list was the creator of the poseball script..not what I wanted.

Anyone got any ideas how to get round this, I guess I could create my own poseball script (If I knew how). I remember reading in a thread some time back about embedding animations in chairs..but I can't seem to find the thread..and anyway I suspect I just did that above.

Thanks again..Perre..:)

You can do just what you did, there are ways around this:

1) Select the cushion first and then the rest of the object to link it, as the last thing selected when linking becomes the main or "parent" prim of the object. This will make the cushion a "child" prim, and as long as you have created the main parent prim you will show as the creator of the entire object.

2) Take the animation and script out of the poseball and put them into a new cushion created by you.

You can also create a new script (Hello, Avatar!), and replace the code of the new script with the code of the poseball script (copy/paste). Now the script that runs the animation shows as being created by you. Be nice and insert a script comment saying who originally wrote the code, though.

if i were to do that i have no doubt the scripter that wrote my scripts would be very unimpressed.
i do not recommend this at all. scripts will _never_ affect a builds 'created by' credit, and copy & pasting somebody elses work into your own script is bad karma at best.

Thanks for that folks..

The order of linking would indeed take the script creators name away from being the creator of the chair, however her name still appears further down the list as (quite rightly) the creator of the script. I could as Ghosty suggests copy the script code were it visible..it isn't. So for the chair to be entirely mine I guess I have to finally (I've been putting this moment off for some time) tackle (and master LOL) script writing.

So earlier this evening I re-viewed Torley's tutorial on how the Wiki works..and am now ready to dive into the Wiki Script writing archives...I may be some time!!

Thanks again..

perre, the only place the script writes name would appear would be on the script itself, viewable only by either editing the object and looking at the script properties, or by doing an 'inspect' and scrolling down the list.
why is it such a big deal if somebody elses name is there?

Why remake the wheel? I think there are a couple of poseball scripts in the scripting forums. I think most of them are set to turn invisible after you sit on them so you'd need to remove that part of the script.

If you haven't seen this Torley tutorial yet, it is amazing - a website that writes scripts for you after you plug in some info. It is amazing!!!

The STS is an easy way to make stuff with out pose balls, plus its free and full permed.:D

It works with animations and can easily be adapted to any thing you sit on.

If you don't have a copy of it, I can send you the folder with everything it comes with.;)

Yes you're absolutely right Nina, the reason the name was appearing wasn't the script but the converted poseball. And why the big deal..none really.

Why remake the wheel Bree..good question. In this instance there was actually a simple answer to the problem and it/they came in the form of a couple of sit/animation scripts for dropping into prims (along with the appropriate animation) dropped on me from readers (thanks again folks)..plus several I discovered in my 'chaotic' inventory and just a moment ago a prog from Quaintly (thanks also). So no need for the poseball!!

However I'm still intent on getting my head round script writing..starting with Torleys Tutorial which I haven't seen yet Czari (thanks for the lead).

sts is nice and it is probably the easiest acceptable way to do what youre wanting to do.

those 'auto-generating script' websites and off-grid tools are another story altogether. beware of the code these things generate. it some cases they are over 100 times as large as they need to be, and contribute to sim/grid instability.
