Check http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ to see if there's any known troubles.
Clear you cache, Internet cache ang change log in location to Aqua, at the Log in page.

If you can't log in for a long ammount of time, and feel it may just be a problem that's happening to you, contact support with a Support Ticket.

Do you get any errors?

Have you tried setting it to home as the start location?

Clear the cache?

Sounds strange, but are you logged in more than once? (i.e., do you have two avatars inworld at the same time?)

I ask because a friend who was already online tried to log in her main as well and the main had a really hard time logging in. It took about 3-4 tries and sounds similar to the situation you described..Shel looked to be logged in, but wasn't; was frozen in place, looked like she could have sent IMs, but no IMs arrived anywhere. She waited a bit, and logged in again, and was able to do so.

Good luck....

Do you get logged in at all?

Have you tried different places to log in at?

Have you turned your router and modem off for a few minutes and turned them back on?

If you get logged at all, try doing a Detach All, if you aren't wearing anything too expensive and uncopyable.

Check your Internet Connection, and is your PC able to handle that Second Life Viewer?

Wired or wireless?

What's your "usual connection"?

Did you turn your modem and computer off for a few minutes?

Did you clear your SL embedded browser's cache?

Yes, if you can log in and the problem doesn't occour in other sims, then it is likely that there is a problem in that sim. Is it still happening? If so, submit a Support Ticket for the Sim problem, and perhaps a PJita Issue using http://jira.secondlife.com/

I really do hope this problem is fixed for you, I know how it feels, being a tester an all :D

Best of luck!

My first attempt at logging in has failed the last half dozen times. The second attempt then works.
