This questions relates to attachments...How many attached prims start to create lag problems?
Does it make a difference?
Does say 500 prims as attachments cause your avatar to render particularly slowly on other peoples viewers?

The more you are wearing, the more it takes time for others to see them (for them to rez), or so I'm told. It also depends on where you are standing and what else is rezzing for them at the same time. As to how much is too much? Don't know, and it shouldn't matter unless you are going to an event where many will be attending - then it is considered polite to wear the least attachments you can for slower machines.

500 doesn't HELP you rez quickly, but I have been using a really low-end machine for a while and can usually handle (i.e. rez) 500 on an avatar, unless there are more than 10 or so AVs around. 500 = one pair of really massively overdesigned boots. If you wore those, a 150-prim hair, a flexi skirt with a lot of flounces (say another 200), and a piece of prim jewelry with a linked chain or long string of pearls (oh, another 200) ... then: -- You would be gray to a lot of people -- The sim server would be groaning a bit when more avatars are around -- If you camped, you would get a "f**ktard" sign over your head, like another unfortunate poster today (courteous campers are dressed in few prims) -- You might have trouble TPing and making sim crossings

Also depends how many textures are being used for all those prims. A single texture across 500 prims is not as bad at 50 textures across 100 prims

Depends on the type of prims used, the type of textures used, and the efficiency of design. General guidelines is to make every prim speak, and to get rid of ones that merely whisper For example, do you really need to have every eyelit on your shoes as prims, when they could be simply textured? The best avatars I have seen are ones that are not overly primmed. They make bold, simple, stylish statements without having so many minutae of primmed detail that the eye is constantly distracted.

From: Aminom Marvin Depends on the type of prims used, the type of textures used, and the efficiency of design. Especially if the prims are tori or sculpties; they're hard on the server.
