Create a new cube object. Spread it out as wide and as flat as it will go using your edit object tools. Then go to texture in the edit window and change the plywood texture to the one you just bought.

As Ray said, you cant just put it straight onto the grass, you need to use the cube prims and fake it :) Lots of people do it and it can look really nice :)

If it's a plot of land, you'll apply the texture to some prims and then put them down as your yard.

Unless there's something particular about that grass you purchsed...

Edited to add: Sheesh I'm slow!

Here's how to texture your prim.

Click your Create button at the bottom of your screen - click someplace in-world to place the cube.

Drag your texture out of your inventory to the cube.

Click the Stretch radio button on your edit tools...grab that cube and start stretching it...that should help.

Then click the Position radio button on your edit tools to move it around.

this will be a good thing for you to learn...Creating a simple object like this is something that will help you a lot in SL. Best thing the first time is have someone inworld walk you through it. Is Ava online? She loves making housecalls. :)

Right click on the ground and a pie menu will come up.. choose "Create" then click on the cube prim from the menu.. then click on the ground.. a little box will appear, then make sure you still have it selected by right clicking the little cube and choosing edit.. then check stretch and use the little squares and stretch it as far as you can.. then click the texture tab.. click on the box that shows the picture of the plywood, that will open a window, from that window find your grass texture and click select.. then you can use the numbers under that same texture tab to move the texture around until it is pleasing to you.. then you could check position in the edit tool and use the arrows to move your new grass into place.

I am sorry if that sounds gobbly geek I am not that great at explaining things ;)

There is a place called "Ivory Tower of Prims" which has many tutorials all about building, creating, texturing, etc. in Second Life. It is newbie friendly! ;)

Use the Search to find it and then Teleport there. What you are asking is probably better addressed in world than here.

There are also some video tutorials that can be helpful here:

Yep it does and it is very useful! I regularly don't find textures that I _know_ are in my inventory through the texture picker, dragging from invy is a very useful alternative option. :)

@ Brandi, if you're in world right now and need a hand give me a shout, I'll help you out if you want -)

It works...but I don't use it much - then again, I can't recall the last prim I used that had the same texture on all sides (this will just put that texture on all sides of the prim).

Yes...but from what I read, it doesn't catch the bottom face of the cube. I always use the texture selection box myself.

Actually I think that might be a bug. There was a thread on this subject in the texturing forum recently.

/me goes off to test whether you can drag texture to a single side of a box

ETA : Yes you can drag a texture from your inventory, but only to a single side of a box :D

Actually, no. This method will texture only the face of the prim where you've dropped the texture, just like using Select Texture.

Ahhh...has been quite some time since I've even tried this method - thank you for the update!

While the above information is correct, I know how overwelming learning the interfaces can be.

If you want to learn the basics of building and texturing in SL (It's not hard once you look at it), go into Search and under PLACES search for "The Ivory Tower of Primitives". The tutorials there are very well made and you can progress "up" the tower as far as you are comfortable learning, and at your own pace. I even reccomend this place to long-time builders as the basics taught here sometimes remind us of the simpel things we forgot.

You may also search for "NCI" also known as "NewCommers Inc". They offer classes and have LOTS of pre-made tutorials on notecards. Collect as many as you want, and read and practice at your convienience. Or attend some of their classes.

And Welcome to SL =^.^=

You're right actually..... just edited my post to reflect that.... guess I work with flat prims too often, or am only trying to edit a single side anyway, to have registered that one :)

It's also worth noting that you're not limitd to using cube prims. You can use squashed spheres to get small grassy hills, and other shapes as needed.

RE dragging textures from inventory:

If you drag a texture from inventory to a prim face, it textures that one face.

If you drag a texture from inventory to the texture panel in the Edit dialog, it will replace all selected faces wit that texture. (Due to a known but not yet fixed building interface glitch, you may need to repeat this process a few times, to get the texture to 'stick' on all selected faces...)

If you give me an IM in game sometime, I will happily send you some sculpties that look like rocks or grassy knolls (gunman not included).

In your inventory, at the very bottom, is a section called Library. If you have a look at the textures in here you will find loads of nice ones for terrain.
